Saccassfal Operation.
Master Tom Corley, the young son
of Mr. John P. Corley, of near Lexington,
was operated upon for appen4
dicitis last Thursday and i3 getting
along nicely. Drs. Knowlton, Wingard
and Sandel performed the operation.

It is Understood that the first work
of Supervisor Langford will be to
clay the roads in the sand hills. It
is said that he promised this during
the campaign, and it will be very
gratifying to know that he intends
? fulfilling that pledge.
Fine Potatoes.
Mr. R. W. Kleckly has our thanks
for a fine lot of "Georgia Buck" potatoes.
They were the largest we
have seen this season and show conclusively
that Mr. Kleckly is one of
the champion potato growers in the
county.
A "Candy Pulling."
On last Saturday night the Misses
Helen and Mae Corley entertained a
number of friends at an old time
* "candy pulling" at the handsome new
home of their parents. Sheriff and
Mrs. P. H. Corly. During the evening
delicious refreshments were served
the guests and all left at a late hour
singing the praises of the young and
' charming hostesses.
Barn Burned.
On Thursday night about 8 o'clock
fire destroyed tw o barn9, belonging to

Greene .Kicnaruson, a pruspciuus KJ1ored
farmer, residing near Mr. James
Caugbman'9 place, about three miles
from Lexington, together with all his
food, a bale of cotton and cotton seed.
' The fire originated from a lantern
which his children were using as a
light to feed by. The loss is estimated
at about $500.

Mr. Hcok was a successful farmer j

Main street, lie also owned considerable
property in this county. He is
survived by three sisters, Mrs. D. J.
Griffith of Columbia, Mrs. Robert i
Senn of Lexington and Mrs. John j
Caughman ot' Lexington, and three I
brothers, Messrs. CaL and Scott of !
Lexington and Joseph Hoek of Eastover.
The funeral services were held Monday
afternoon at 2 o'clock at Mt.
