Robert Stevens Silled
by Truesdale Carr.
Robert Stevens, a negro, wa9 9hot
and killed by Truesdale Carr, another
negro, in the pressing room of Joe
Davig, in the rear of the barber shop
oa Friday afternoon. At the inquest
Saturday morning Joe Davis was the
principal witness. He stated that
Stevens was in his place sitting on a
chair when Carr came in with a
double-barrel shotgun, and drew it on
Stevens, wherupon Stevens got up and
protested against Carr pointing the
gun at him. Oarr told Stevens he
would shoot him. Stevens grabbed
the gun in an effort to keep f.om
being shot. .-A struggle ensued,
Stevens finally turning loose the gun
As he turned to walk away Carr shot
him in the^ide, the whole load taking
effect in the stomach, causing a
wound from which the bowels were
portruding when help arrived. Irs#
Wingard and Sandail did everything
possible for the wounded man, but he
died about 11 o'clock Friday night.
The coroners jury returned a verdict
in accordance with the above facts,
and added that, in their opinion, the
killing wa3 willful murder. Carr

Corley and Deputy Sheriff Miller
about 9 o'clock Friday night. He is in
jail.
