Whereas, Petitions signed by more than one-third of the qualified electors of those portions of Aiken, Lexington and Oraneebun? counties Drowsed to be cut off to form the new county (commonly known as Edisto county) and embraced in the following lines, to wit: Beginning "at a point about one mile below Merritt's bridge at Drury's Blufl on South Edisto river, Aiken county. , thence north to a point on the east boundary of right of way of Twc Notch road, wherd said' road crosses Nolen branch, thence the eastern boundary of said raid to Southern Railway, crossing near Samaria church, Lexing ton .county, thence a direct line to the Jones' new mill, on Black creek, thence a direct line to a point half mile soutl ^ of the residence of J. E. Asa Whereas, the boundaries of the proposed new county, the number of inhabitants, the taxable property, as shown by the last tax returns, and that the proposed lines do not Vun nearer than eight miles to any court house now established, are also set forth in said petition. Ana Whereas, the report of a ma* jority of the commission appointed by me to ascertain the facts as provided for in the Acts of 1905, as to whether the requirements of the Constitution as to area, distance, wealth, population, et cetera, have been complied with, has been filed, stating ., that . the ? law had been fully complied with, and the number of square miles in the proposed new county (commonly known as Edisto county) is four hundred and twenty -six (436) square miles, leaving to the county of Aiken more than five hundred (500) square miles, to the county Of Lexington more than five hundred (500) square miles and to the county of Orangeburg more than five hundred <500) square miles. Now, Therefore, I, M. P. Ansel, as Governor of the State of South Caro/ lina, by virtue of the power conferred upon me by the Constitution and Laws .. of this State, do hereby order, / 1. That an election be held in the territory embraced within the proposed hew county on the fiteenth day of Deoember A.-D. 1906, upon the question cf creating the said new county, and that, at such election, the qualified electors within the proposed area shall be allowed to vote upon said question, , those favoring the proposed new coon"Yen" and those opposed tc WJ IV * WW ? That the commissioners of State and County elections of the counties ol Aiken, Lexington and Orangeburg respectively shall make all necessary arrangements for holding said election, shall appoint managers and do all other things necessary for the holding of said election; that the County Supervisors of the said counties respectively shall have prepared printed tickets and furnish same to the Commissioners oi Election to be sent out to the managers > . of election for the use of the voters. 3. AMD BOYS?Great bargains in c Boys' Pants at 25c., 50c. and $1. audi county shall also be submitted to if. the said qualified electors. /- 4.- That said election shall be held under the same rules and regulations as are provided by law for regular county elections; that the managers shall be sworn before entering upon the discharge of their duties and shall open the polls at seven o'clock in the morning and keep the same open until four o*clock in the afternoon, when the polls shall be closed, the votes counted, a re1 turn of the number of votes polled for and against, signed and certified to by the managers of election which together with the ballot box, ballots and poll list shall be turned over to the commissioners of election, as required by law; that the commissioners of election shall then, as now required by law, tabulate the vote and make return thereof to the Governor of the State and to the Secretary of State and file a copy of same with the Clerk of Court of Common Pleas for each of said counties of Aiken, Lexington and Orangeburg. Her many friends have given her a hearty welcome. Mrs. L. B. Reynolds, of Sumter, is one .of our new teachers. Mrs. Reynolds is a teacher of wide experience, and we predict a successful term for her. Miss Belle Smith and Mr. Rufus Koon were quietly married at the bride's home Sunday afternoon, by Rev. W. W. Williams. Immediately after the ceremony the happy couple left for a visit to the grooms parents Miss Isabel Brooker returned to her school dutie's in Batesburg Sunday, after a few days holiday spent here with her parents* Mr. U. jB. Haigler has been visiting friends in Newberry for the past few days. Mrs. Lizzie Durham, of Berlin, visited her brother, Col. D. J. Knotts last week. Miss Lillv Rucker, who has been the rest of her cousins, Mr. and Mrs. C. Rucker, returned to her home on Sandy Run yesterday. Rev. W. W. Williams preached his farewell sermon at the Baptist church Sunday night from Matt: 6:20; ''Lay up for yourselves treasures in Heaven" Rev. Williams has labored faithfully among his people here for two years, and his many friends regret to see him and Mrs. Williams, leave.
