Hust Sold An Election.
Gen. Wilie Jones, State chairman
of the Democratic party, has' written
a letter to County Chairman D. F.
*** ** " v o v* a1 /n r\
Jtiora m wmen jm states uidu au election
mast be held to elect a superintendent
of education to succeed Mr.
Farr. He declares that the action of
the executive committee in naming
Mr. A. D. Martin as the nominee, was
clearly in violation of the rules of the
Democratic party, and requests Chairman
Efird to call the committee together
and name a day for the election.
Thinks Committee Sid Bight.
A. D. Martin, Esq.,
Dear Sir?I have read with interest
the controversy as to your nomination
by the Executive Committee.
The sole real question is whether the
election, or rather nomination, of Mr.
Farr ended the contest for School
Commissioner. If so any man or any
? number of men could come out "as
candidates. But, in my opinion, if
Samuel B. George or Prank W. Shealy
had put himself out of the way as Mr.
Farr did, then the Executive Committee
would have declared another contv>o

Buff, If this-is the proper conclugion
then there was no nse for you to run
the race over as you have had no
competition. It would be unjust for
you to have to face a new man. If
there are any who wanted the office
why did they not come out at first? I
think the County Executive Committee
took the proper view regardless
of the reasons for their sction. Excuse
my seeming officiousness if offensive
to you.
Yours very truly,

Executm Committee Upheld.
The action of the County Democratic
Committee in naming A. D.
Martin for County Superintendent of
Education has met with practically
the unanimous approval of the voters
of Lexington county. Of course there
are always those who oppose any
movement. The kicker has his place
and there is one qualification which
he always displays and that is to kick4

him an ideal superintendent and we
predict that he will do so. But few
less than a majority of the voters
spoke in his favor at the close of the j
high toned gentlemanly campaign
against the lamented Farr, receiving
.-at his home precincts a handsome
-vote. This speaks well for the man
where he is best known.
It is the opinion of all whom we j
have approached that Martin would
have overwhelmingly defeated any j
man who might have offered against j
him in an extra primary. Then why.!
put the county to the expense, and 4,- |
000 voters to the loss of valuable time? j
Martin is the people's choice.?Lees- !

Lever will have a new opponent at the
November election. R. H. Richardson
of Sumter received the nomination
at the Republican convention of
the Seventh district, held here today.
AlexDantzler, who has contested for
Mr. Lever's seat for the past several

defeated by five votes. The convention
