Miss Martha Hendrix Caughman,
the beautiful and accomplished daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. James Caughman,
left yesterday for Columbia, where
she enters the University of South
Carolina to-day.
Miss Anna Brown is expected to
arrive in a few days to be in charge
of the millinery department at W. P.
Roof's. This will be Miss Brown's
third season here, and it is needless to
say that the ladies of this entire section
will herald her return with genuine
delight.
Miss Bell Butler left here on Tuesday
to accept a position as milliner

Mr. Alfred J. Fox, the popular
banker, insurance and real estate

improving at the Columbia hospital,
where she was operated upon for gall
stones by Dr. Owens about ten days
ago. Her husband has been constantly
at her bedside.

a handsome residence on the vacant
lot between his residence and the
Drafts hotel. Mr. Efird has recently
had a complete system of waterworks
enstalled and his home is one of the
most convenient in town.
Hon. Banks L. Caugbman is spending
several days with relatives here,
resting up from the recent campaign.
Mr. Caughman is very grateful to the
people of this county for the very
hurge vote he received in the recent
primary.

Mr. J. C. H. Ranch, who has been
visiting his son, Mr. P. W. Ranch and
his daughter, Mrs. W. E. Black, has
returned to Saluda. He was accompanied
by his daughter, Miss Rosa
Ranch, who will spend sometime with
her parents.
Mr. D. E. Ballentine received a
telegram yesterday morning calling ,
him to Washington, to be at the bedside
of his son, Mr. Julius B. Ballentine,
who has been desperately ill
with typhoid fever for the past six
weeks. He left on the 10 o'clock
train. Miss Emma Ballentine has
been with her brother sin^e his illness.
