Negro Arrested.
Last Thursday sheriff P. H. Cori stand
Deputy Sheriff Sim J. Miller arrested
Julius Eskew, a negro, upon
the charge of trying to assist Abram
James, another negro, to escape from
jail.
It will be recalled, that James was
arrested several weeks ago upon the
charge of stealing hogs. About two
weeks ago Eskew went to the jail in
the night time and placed a two by
four scantling through the bars to
James. James hid the niece of tint
; ber under his bunk. Deputy Sheriff
Miller heard the noise and upon inquiry,
he was informed by one of tha
other prisoners that some one had put
the scantling through the window.
James denied the whole affair at'first,
but'later gave his pal away and the
arrest of Eskew followed.

Cotton Night Eiders.
Meridian, Miss., Sept. 18.?A special
to the Dispatch from Sandersville,
50 miles south of Meridian, says:
"Night riders have appeared in
-Tnnps rnnntv and three nrominent
farmers, living six miles east of here,
received notices Monday night to
haul no more cotton to gin, or else
they would 'get paid' as they returned
home. A general notice was also
placed on the public roads warning
all farmers to cease hauling cotton
after September 14.
Considerable excitement prevails
and farmers near town are rushing
their cotton in, while those farther
away have ceased hauling to the
gins."
A Paying Investment. *
Mr. John Wlrte, of 38 Highlandave.,
Honlton, Me., says: "Have been troubled
with a cough every winter and
spring. Last winter I tried many ad-,
vertised remedie s, but the cough continued
until I bought a 50c. bottle of
Dr. King's New Discovery; before that*
was half gone, the cough was all gone.
This winter the same happy result has
followed: a few doses once more banished
the annual cough. I am now con
vinced that Dr. King's New Discoveryis
the best of all cough and lung remedies."
