Farmers Determined to Hold j
Cotton.
The cotton fields are white all over j
the country and the farmers are mak- j
ing rapid progress gathering the fleecy j
staple and having it ginned, but very
few of them are selling, on account
of the low market. The cotton market
has opened at very unsatisfactory
figures to the farmers.
She speculative markets have sent
the price down to a little over S cents
and the farmers determined not to
sell at that price, when it is a known
fact, all over the country, that there
will not be anything like a full crop
made.
4 ' * - J ? 4- y-V O _
a limes man was lairing uu a tuiton
buyer a few days ago and he
stated that if the farmers would only
market ^their cotton conservatively
that it would go to 10 cents and
higher in a few days. He said there
are no reasons for the farmers to turn
loose their cotton at the present price
thinking that it would go lower. He
said he was Satisfied that this was a
bear scheme on the part of the speculative
element to get the farmers'
cotton for nothing, and it was just
up to the farmers to sit steady in the
boat and win out in the fight.
From all reports the cotton crop

He managed to feed, clothe and start
in life all these little ones on a' weekly
wage as low as $3.25. There have
constantly been six or more of the
children at home to be provided for.
When you have a cold you may be
sure that it has been caused indirectly
by constipation and consequently you
must first of all take something to move
the bowels. This is what has made
Kennedy's Laxative Cough Syrup so
successful and so generally demanded.
It does not constipate like most of the
old fashioned cough cures, but on the
other hand it gently moves the bowels
and at the same time heals irritation
and allays inflammation of the throat.

over a little strip of wood that ran up
into ours. Whenever he was angry
with us, which happened quite often
(we never knew why), he had a deep,
ugly ditch made just across the road
which we always took when we were
riding around the property. The woods
were so thick and low, with plenty of
thorns, that we could not get along by
keeping on one side and were obliged
to go back and make quite a long detour.
The notary did his best to buy it

The Martian Sky.
The clearness of the Martian sky
comes in to abet tlie greater transmission
of its air. From dawn till dusk
day after day in the summer season
and largely in winter the sun shines
out of a heaven innocent of cloud. No
shield of the sort and only a little
screen of air tempers its beams to the
soil held up to it. Such an exposure
far exceeds anything we have on earth,
for with us, even in the tropics, clouds
gather as sooa as the heating grows
excessive and cool the air by plumps of
rain.?Percival Lowell in Century.
