Prof. Smith is one of the best educators in the county and is widely known. The many friends of Miss Annie Martha Meetze will be pained to learn that she has been confined to her bed with fever for the last ten days. We are glad to announce, however, that she is much better now, and her friends hope to see her out again soon. Mr. O. A. Dreher, son of Mr. John A. Dreher, of the Selwood section, was in town Monday. He is a clever and industrious young man and will farm on the old place next year. He has added his nametooursubscriDtion list. Hayne Williams and family have moved from Batesburg to Lexington and are occupying the handsome new residence of Mr. H. N. Kaminer on upper Main street. Mr. Williams is one of the best business men in the whole country and we are delighted to have him with us. Dr. J. W. Deputy Sheriff Miller arrested and lodged in jail, on Friday night, Rhude Wise, a young negro about years of age, for attempting to break into the residence of Mr. John G. Boozer, at Saxe Gotha Mills. As soon as Mr. Miller received the information he left for the scene taking Sheriff Corley's blood hound with him, but he met the negro on the way and put him under arrest, thus saving the dog a chase.
