For Railroad Commissioner.
I beg to announce my candidacy for
re-olection to the office of Railroad
Commissioner. I am making my cam
paign not on promises sw to wnat l
will do, but on what I have done.
Those who have had business with
the Railroad Commission will testify
that I have ever been ready to discharge
the duties of my office fearlessly,
inpartially, and to the best infproatn
of thp r>pnnlp of South Caro
X X lina,
and that I have always been
courteous to those desiring information
and relief.
lam the only Railroad Commissioner
who has moved to Columbia to
be in daily touch with the work of
the office.
During my term of office I have inspected
personally every line of railroad
in the State, often walking
cross-ties that I might be assured that
the condition of the roadbeds and
trestles were safe.
I have been often in every county
in South Carolina, looking into the
corditions of the stations, and improving
the conveniences of the traveling
public.
I have stood for lower freight and
passenger rates, better schedules, and
safer modes of travel.
The .handsome majority you gave
me formerly has always been appreciated,
and has been an incentive to
- - a 3 i f ^ _
a faithful performance 01 my amies.
I hope to have your support in the
coming election, and shall strive to
ever render you faithful service.
Respectfully,
BANKS L. CAUGHMAN

Crops are railing somewnat on account
of the excessive heat and dry
weather, yet we have some very fine
crops in this section, amonfe them we
mention the crops of Messrs. J. W.
Grandy and Haskell Hall. Mr. Grandy
is about to get the blue-ribbon, as
the champion farmer of this section.
He made 1750 pounds of seed cotton
to the acre last year and if nothing
happens he will make close on to two
bales per acre this year.
Mr. Haskell Hall, althougn nig nrst
year at farming, has cotton which he
is not ashamed to show any farmer.
I am glad to see more interest taken
in farming in this immediate section
than heretofore. Our farmers have
found out that heavy fertilizing is the
way to make fine crops.
A protracted meeting has just closed

A protracted meeting has been in
