Wayside Notes Gathered Here and There by a Dispatch Man. Mrs. W. P. Roof is on a visit to relatives at Chapin. Mr. Melton Lorick, of Brookiand, is visiting relatives in town. Several of our young folks attended the reunion at Little Mountain last week. Mr. J. Lloyd Eargle,The Dispatch's wide-awake Delmar correspondent, was in town Monday. Mrs. Ellen Seay and family, of Columbia, are visiting friends and relatives in and around Lexington. Prof, and Mrs. F. W. Rauch and little daughter have returned from a delightful visit to relatives and friends in Georgia. Mrs. J. Luther Long, who has been quite ill with fever for several days past, is no better much to the regret of her host of friends. Miss Mary E. Harman has returned to Batesburg after a delightful visit to her old home and friends around Lexington. The sincerest thanks of the Ladies' Aid society of the Baptist church are extended to all those who helped make their social a success. Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Rhude Meetze and little son, of Columbia, are visiting the former's mother, Mrs. John H. Meetze, and other relatives here. Misses Caro and Ruth Efird have returned from a delightful visit to the Misses Ethel and Nellie Caughman in Columbia. Mr. G. A. Lucas, the popular piano man from Augusta, spent a couple days here last week. He will shortly visit Boston and other Doints in the north. All of the candidates and quite a number of others from this place attended the campaign meeting at Summerland yesterday. The Whitten Dry Goods company, of Batesburg, is conducting a clean- . sweep clearance sale at cost and you had best go now. Miss Sadie Raysor, of St. Matthev/s, is the beautiful and lovely guest of Miss Anna Martha Meetze at the Meetze hotel. Mr. A. B. Meetze, of Baldoc, S. C., is visiting relatives in and around town. He gave us a pleasant call yesterday. The many friends of Mrs. A. Marks will be glad to learn that she is improving from her recent attack of fever. Congressman Lever will address a - * big meeting of farmers at Pendleton *on Friday. He will be at the Brookland meeting on Saturday, county campaign day. : We are giving a good deal of our space this week to tne candidates. A representative of The Dispatch will attend the Brookland meeting on Saturday. Miss Elizabeth Dominick, of Newberry, one of the most intellectual and charming young women in South Carolina, is a teacher in the teachers, institute now in session here. Lexington county fair. Mrs. Mary A. Haltiwanger returned to Batesburg yesterday after a visit to the family of her son, Mr. D. R. Hal- 1 tiwanger. Mrs. D. Job Harman and son, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. O. F. Hendrix, have returned from an extended visit among relatives and friends in Saluda county. Capt. W. N. McNeil, of Hamlet, N. C., road master of the Seaboard railway and a capable official, visited his wife's father, Mr. G. A. Goodwin, on campaign day at Gaston. Mrs. C. F. Snyder and children returned to their home in Florida, after spending several weeks with Mrs. Snyder's parents, Col. and Mrs. M. D. Harman. Miss Mittie Galloway, a charming and accomplished young lady of Hamlet, N. C., returned home Tuesday of last week, after quite a pleasant visit to friends at Gaston. I Mr. W. L. Taylor was in town Monday making deed of the old Boliver I. Hayes place to Mr. J. Lloyd Eargle. William is a good man and we are always glad to see the light of his benign countenance. "jCiVery uxue neips.-Misses Lula Kaminer and Anna Martha Meetze most charmingly entertained last evening in honor of Misses Elizabeth Dominick, of Newberry, and Sadie Raysor, of St Matthews. Missess Pearl and Josie Kaminer, of Columbia, after spending a few weeks with their sister, Mrs. W. E. Garrett, in Atlanta, are now on a visit to Mr. James W. Corley's family here. Tommie Mitchell, of Irene, who was recently operated on for appendicitis and peritonitis, the operation being performed by Dr.* E. P. Derrick of Lexington, and Dr. Owens of Columbia, was doing well at last accounts. Messrs. F. E. Dreher, Samuel J. Leaphart and Samuel P. Roof, left on Saturday night for Charleston, where they took a steamer Sunday morning for New York and other points of interest. They will be away for about ten days. The many friends of Mr. R. D. Smith will be glad to learn that he is now recovering from a severe attack of pneumonia at his old home in Leesville, and will soon be able to go to the springs, where he hopes to regain Vfcta Vioolf.Vi jlixo jav- ui tu Mr. C. S. Goodwin will furnish a barbecue at Gaston, on election day, August 25th. The price for dinner and lemonade will be only 25 cents. Mr. Goodwin furnished a most excellent dinner on campaign day, and he will do so again on the 25th. Mr. B. R. Cooner, head of the Columbia, Grain and Provision company, came over in his handsome automobile on Sunday afternoon. "Bun" is a mighty fine fellow, but we register a kick against his laying all claim to our girls.
