Prohibition.
Will prohibition prohibit the 9ale of
liquor? In the campaign meetings we
often hear the aspiring candidate proclaim
in stentorian) tones that "prohibition
will not prohibit." Such an
one has soma personal end in view or
else is densely ignorant of the current
events of his own state and nation.
Where prohibition has been made a
law and where the citizens have enforced
the law a condition so much
better than that enjoyed with the
curses of liquor ha9 grown up that the
most imaginative of a few years ago
are compelled to stare at the magnitude
of radical changes we have
made.
In another column we are publishing
a number of letters from the clerks
of court of many of the prohibition
counties in South Carolina, and without
exception they say that business
has improved, drinking has been reduced,
sobriety strengthened and
good order again secured, do not
these things go to prove something?
Most assuredly so. They show most
forcibly that the liquor trafic is a
curse that is eating out the very heart
of the nation, and the only way to
regulate or control it is to kill it with
total prohibition.?Branchville Journal.

Like Snake Man Sheds
. His Skin For 28th Time
For the 2Sth time in 53 years, William
H. Cake, a linoleum printer, of
Trenton, N. J., is shedding his skin
like a snake, only instead of periodicall}7
casting aside the cuticle, Cake i?
likely to shed his skin at any time. u
First he is taken with a chill, then
the skin dries up and cracks off entirely
within two weeks. During this
period he suffers agony. As soon as
the skin has been shed, Cake is all
right again. Hechas several children,
but none of them are afflicted with
any symptoms of skin shedding. Specialists
have seen the man, but none
of them has ever done him any good.
