Mrs. P. T. Brodie and Miss Helen
Bradford have arrived from Clemscn
college, and will spend some time

Mr. George M. Lewis, of Leesville,
Route 3, was in town yesterday and

Saturday, which is sufficient guarantee
of a fine dinner.
Miss Anna Martha Meetze has returned
from St. Matthews, where she
was a delightful guest at Miss Sadie
Raysor's house party.
Mr. I-yles Sollee, the bright young
son of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Sollee of
Batesburg, was here on Monday, securing
application blanks for the
Citadel scholarship.
Mr. Jas. E. Dunbar, of the Black
creek section, was in town yesterday.
Mr. Dunbar stated, while here, that
rain is badly needed in his section and
that crops have already been damaged
greatly.

Mr. R. D. Smith, the popular and
very efficient book-keeper of the Lexington
Savings Bank, has been quite
sick at the borne of his parents in
Leesville. His many friends here
wish for him a speedy recovery.
Dr. E. P. Derrick has returned from
?a few day rest at Glenn Springs.
During Dr. Derrick's absence Dr.
Frank Roberts had charge of his practice
and well indeed did he care for
the sick.

Mr. D. A. Lewis, representing the

prominent Baptist and a mighty good
citizen, was here on Friday, and as
usual, was prompt in paying for his
paper.
Mrs. W. C. Stoudemire, of Orangeburg,
is visiting her parents, Dr. and
Mrs. J. L. Shuler at Selwood. Mrs.
Stoudemire is pleasantly remembered
here as 'Miss Rosalyn Shuler and her
many friends were glad to see her on
Monday.
Miss Anna Brown, who has been the
popular milliner at W. P. Roof's for
the past four seasons, left for her
home in George, N. C., yesterday to
spend her vacation.
Ladies are invited to visit the store

Business is beginning to take on new
life despite the fact that money is still
scarce. Farm work will soon oe over

Lever has been away
for the past week addressing farmers'
meetings in different sections of the
state. On Saturday he was the principal
speaker at a big farmers' rally
tatGaffney, and on Monday he addressed
a like meeting at Union. On
both occasions he was warmly received
and roundly applauded.
The citizens of the Dutch Fork will
have an opportunity next Tuesdhy of
going to Atlanta, Ga., and return for
the low rate of $3.50. This is the
price from Columbia and all points
along the line of the C. N. & L. railway
in the Dutch Fork. Three days
in Atlanta.
Mrs. Jas. E. Rawl has received a
postal from her grandson, Mr. Rudolph
Snelgrove, who is now located
at Roosevelt, Arizona, and is doing
well. This will be glad news to his
many friends here. The Dispatch
goes to his address every week.

Mr. F. C. Caughman, formerly of
this town but now a resident of
Columbia, is to have charge of
the placing of the new machinery
at the quarry. Mr. Caughman
besides being a shrewd politician is
one of the finest workmen in the State
and will no doubt give the best of
satisfaction. He was shaking hands
with his friends here yesterday.
Misses Elizabeth Hawkins, of Prosperity;
Josie Carroll, of Yorkville,
and Sadie DesPortes, of Ridge way,
have returned to their homes after
having been delightfully entertained
by Miss Lucile Butler. While here
these young ladies received much social
attention and it. is generally regretted
that they could not remain
with us always.
