To the Editor of The Dispatch:
Rain has been plentiful and corn is
fine while cotton is not doing so well.
Quite a number of candidates were
in town last Saturday going to and
from the Priceville and Crout cue9.
Prof. L. B. Haynes, after attending
the Crout cue and spending the time
most pleasantly in the Pond Branch
section, called on friends in town and
remained over Sunday nignt with
Rev. Rountree.
The protracted meeting ao Beulah
church is going on now. The services
are well attended and it is hoped that
much good will be done.

A Negro Burglar.
A negro man entered the home of
Mrs. Maggie Adams on Harrington
street on Tuesday morning about one
o'clock and stole from a trunk in Mrs.
Adams' room $18 and a gold ring.
Mrs. Adams was awakened by a noise
in the room of her mother, Mrs. Davenport,
adjoining hers, and saw a
negro stooping over a trunk. She
jumped oat of bed and got a pistol.
The negro broke for the door and
opened it. As he passed out Mrs. Adams
fired, the ball missing his head
only a few inches. She fired two
more shots, but all missed,-rNewberry

treatments relieved only temporarily.
New Discovery is doing me so much
good that I feel confident its continued

Co. 50c. and $1.00. Trial bottle free.
Drove Negro From County.
Yorkville, July 20.?About ten days
or two weeks ago a report gained currency
in a neighborhood about seven
miles northeast of Yorkville, near
Clover, that a horrible assault had
been made on the person of a little
white girl. An investigation proved
it to be utterly false and without
foundation. Citizens of the neighborhood
made careful inquiry as to the
author of the report, and finally fastened
guilt on Bob Howard, a negro.
On last Monday night a number of
men visited his* home, took him out,
applied 100 lashes to his back and advised
him to leave the State never to
return, by noon yesterday. He went
It is claimed that he started similar
reports in several other neighborhoods
in which he had lived in the county.
A Strange Animal, This.
A special to the News and Courier
from Walterboro says:
For some days past the people of
Cottageville have been very much exercised
overs the appearance in that
neighborhood of a strange animal. It
is described by those who have seen i
it as being entirely different from
anything they have ever seen before
in the animal kingdom. It is about
the size of a yearling calf, has a head
shaped like a dog, screams like a peacock
and leaps like a kangaroo. Some
persons who have seen it say that it j
is affrighted; others that it is vicious
and shows signs of attacking them. |
On the whole it is a most peculiar an- j
imal.

There can be no just reason why
any reader of this will continue to
suffer the tortues of an aching back,
the annoyance of urinary disorders,
the dangers of diabetes of any kidney
ills when relief is so near at hand and
the most positive proof given that
they can be cured. Read what a
Lexington citizen says:
C. A. Geiger, living on Depot St.,
Lexington, S. C., says: "For several
months I had been suffering from dull
pain9 across the small of my back and
as they did not disappear, I came to
the conclusion that my kidneys were
affected. At night after lying down
my back would pain me intensely,
and I also noticed an irregularity in
the action of the kidneys. The secretions
were much to frequent and I
was feeling miserable when I procured
Doan's Kidnev Pills at The Kauf
mann Drug Co. I used them as directed
and they proved to be the
remedy I needed. They have helped
me so much that I feel I will soon be
entirely well. It gives me pleasure

Cheap help is always the most expensive.
Heat prostrates the nerves. In the
summer one needs a tonic to off-set the
customary hot weather nerve and
strength depression. You will feel better
within 48 hours after beginning to
take such a remedy as Dr. Shoop's Restorative.
Its prompt action in restoring
the weakened nerves is surprising.
Of course, you won't get entirely strong
in a few days, but each day you can
actually feel the improvement. That
tired, lifeless, spiritless feeling will
quickly depart when using the restorative.
Dr. Shoop's Restorative will
sharpen a failing appetite; it aids digestion;
it will strengthen the weakened
kidneys and heart by simply rebuilding
the worn out nerves that these organs
depend upon. Test it a few days
and be convinced. Sold by Kanfmann
Drug Co.
