Kiss Corley Be-elected.
The trustees of the? Irene school
have secured for next session the valuable
services of Miss Sue H. Corley,
who taught most successfully for them
last term.
Blacksmiths.
Blacksmiths and wheelwrights are
v reminded that T. B. Aughtry & Co.,
Colombia, always carry a large stock
of boggy and wagon material which
they always sell at the lowest prices.
Write them for your wants. ,
Registration Board Busy.
If-the board of registration is kept
as busy as they have been the past
few days, it will not be long before
every man in the county will have a
new certificate, and it will be of little
use for them to visit the different precincts
in the county during the month
- * of September.
Hauling Poaches.
We have never seen tha like of
wagons hanling fruit' to Coltimbia.
, They come and go at all times during
the day and night and it is surprising
to see just how much fruit, produce,
etc., is marketed in Columbia.

* The candidates for the United
* 'States aenate will speak here on next
Tuesday, the 28th. It is hoped that
the voters will turn out in large numbers
to hear the candidates, all of
whom are speakers of wide repute
and it goes without saying that their
. speeches will be highly entertainging.
Let everybody come to Lexington
l next Tuesday.
Dcoglaa does to Gang.
Deputy Sheriff Sim J. Miller carried
Gus Douglas, the negro who was arrested
last week for obtaining money
nnder false pretences from Mr. H. Z.
Adams, to Leesville Monday morning
where he was tried before Magistrate
Shealy. He was found guilty and
sentenced to pay a fine of $50 or serve
- a period of 60 days on the gang.
Douglas took the days.
Rais Needed.
It is reported that crops in some sec
tions of the county are badly in need
of rain and that much damage has
already been done. In other sections
however, rain has been plentiful and
crop conditions were never better.
; I*ot only is this the case in this
' county, but the same conditions preTail
throughout the State.
XilUd Two Hawks.
Verner Bickley, the 13-years-old son
of Mrs. Bebeca Bickley, of the Sellwood
section is a fine shot for one so
young in years. Oqe day last week
this little fellow killed two hawks in
less than fifteen minutes, both of
which measured over three feet from
tip to tip. , The hawks were brought
down with a single-barreled breechloader.
The little man is receiving
the^coneratulations of a large circle
of friends.

Macon, Ga., July 18.?An electric
storm suddenly broke over Bullards,
17 miles from here, this afternoon, and
a bolt of lightning killed young Dan
Harrel and fatally injured a negro, besides
shocking many others. Young
Harrell, with others, had assembled
to play a game of base ball when the
bolt fell among them without warning.
I NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS.
For County Commissioner.
John W. Smith is hereby announced
as a candidate for County Commissioner
and will abide by the result of the
Democratic primary.
The Board of Health.
The board of health has been acting
wisely of late. They have had
several of the old stagnated wells
closed up and have been looking after
the general sanitary conditions of the
town. But there are more wells to
be closed and other precautions to be
taken and it is to be hoped that the
board will continue the good work
until every breeder of typhoid is forever
stamped out. Let the good work
continue, gwuuieiiieu.
The Barbecue at A&dy's.
The barbecue at O. B. Addy's on
Saturday was largely attended and
quite a number of the candidates were
present. Among those who spoke
were the candidates for the State
Senate?Messrs. Sharpe, Graham and
Crosson, and the following candidates
for the House: Dr. E. C. Ridgell,
Isaac Edwards, Joseph L. Amick and
R. L. Shuler.
It was a representative gathering
of the citizens of that section and all !
of the speakers had a respectful hearing.

Columbia's Amusements.
It has been the editor's good fortune
to attend the various places of
amusement in Columbia during the
past few weeks. To say that we have
been delighted, yea, charmed, by the
wonderful attractions offered by the
different little theatres in the city is
expressing it mildly. Each of these
shows furnish performances of a high
character and it is surprising to see
how well they keep up, when one
considers the small price of admission
charged. Every day or two new
plays are put on and a complete
.change of program, which undoubtedly
costs money. This goes to show
that the managers are spring neither
time nor money in securing attracsions
which appeal to the theatregoers.
Certainly, Columbia is blessed
with clean and uptodate amusements.
