Miss Butler Entertains.
Miss Lueile Butler was a pleasing
hostess on last Monday evening to a
number of her friends here. The occasion
was a delightful lawn party
given in honor_ of her ^house-party
guests, Misses Elizabetn nawKins, 01
Prosperity, Josie Carroll, of Yorkville,
and Sadie DesPortes, of Ridgeway.
"Those who were fortunate enough to
receive the neat little invitations
knew that a pleasant evening was in
, store for them, and charmingly indeed
did the petite hostess entertain.
The conventional Japanese lantern
added its weird shadows to the soft
\ moonlight, which enveloped the pretty-lawn
in front of her home, and inviting
cozy corners, half hid among
the vines and shrubery, made the
scene ideal. During the evening a
dainty course of ices was served by
the younger sisters of the hostess.
Later the guests retired to the parlors j
^ where musical selections and a reading
by Miss Hawkins, increased the |
-enjoyment of the evening. Too soon j
the wee sms' hours arrived and the '
guests departed, each with pleasant
memories of a happily spent evening.

Tie County Union.
% The quarterly meeting of the Lexington
County Farmer? Union was
held here last Saturday. Nearly every
union in the county was represented.
Only regular routine work was disv
posed of. Pres. S. J. Clark met with
what might have been a serious accident,
hut which happily, a sit turned
1 out be escaped with minor injuries.
While going down a hill the bellyband
broke, causing the shafts to ny
up and the buggy to run on the horse,
which become frightened and let
heels fly at a rapid gate. The scared
animal final]v succeeded in throwing
Mr. Clark out and in the fall, he recalved
several braises. Mr. Clark's
son-in-law, Mr. Willard Quattlebaum,
was in the buggy with- him, but he
got off withoutinjury.
Mr. B. B. Wilson.
Me. E. B. Wilson, the very efficient
ichief clerk in the comptroller general's
office, came over Monday and
made annual settlement with County
, Auditor Dent and County Treasurer
' Shealy. It is needless to say that he
found everything in the best of shape.
The books were neat and correct,
* and Mr. Wilson complimented the
- officials very highly for the excellent
manner in which they conduct the
affairs of their offices and that it was
N really a pleasure to visit these gentlemen
with whom he has never had any
trouble. He with his little son, remained
over yesterday and spent the I
day fishing with Mr. Dent. Mr. W.
enjoys being in Lexington and Lexington
enjoy s having him as her guest.
Some Fine Cotton.
Deputy Sheriff Sim J. Miller, who
has recently been in nearly every
section of the county, says that Mr.
David Strickland, who resides between
Swansea and Woodford, has
some of the finest cotton he has seen
anywhere. Mr. Miller says that the
' -crocs generally are fine, especially
corn.
