West Point Examination.
I will hold an examination of all applicants
for appointment to the United States
Naval Academy, on Friday,
August 7th at 9:30 A. M., at Columbia,
S. C. From this examination, I shall
select my appointee for the vacancy
now existing. The following are the
qualifications of the candidates, required
by the War Department:
"No candidate shall be admitted r
who is under 17 or over 22 years of
age, of less than five feet four inches
in height at the age of 17, or five feet s
five inches in height at the age of 18 a
and upward, or who is deformed or $
afflicted with any disease or imfirmity ^
which would render him unfit for the ^
military service, or who has, at the j
time of presenting himself, anjr dis- c
order of an infectious or immoral r

Obituary.
Byron Hubert, son of Harry and
Willie Hendrix, born Oct. 7th, 1907,
baptized Jan. 5th, died June 21st,
1908, aged 8 months and 14 days. His
remains were laid to rest in the cemetery
of St. Peter's E. L. church, near
Lexington, S. C.

The Congaree Baptist church down
at Styx, organized on the 6th day of
February, 1908, with seven members,
has iust recently completed a large,
handsome building. They now have
a membership of 29 members. They
have exhausted all of ; their means,
and owe a balance of $150 on the
building.
Mr. J. W. Connor, chairman of the
building committee, who has stood to
the front, in erecting this church and
giving of his means very largely, is
anxious for the debt to be paid. He
appeals to the Baptist churches of
this county, and their friends, to help
him in defraying the expenses which
the church now owes. Ar y contribution
will be gladly received. You can
send it to Mr. J. W. Connor, New
Brookland, S. C., and he will gladly
send you a receipt for the same.

Kirk Williams, a North Carolina
