Columbia friends of Mr. Brooks J.

predicting for him a brilliant fnture
, Shortly after his graduation he became
private secretary to Congressman
A. F. Lever,'and since then he
has become absolutely necessary to
his chief, whom he serves faithfully,
devotedly and with unusual intelligence.
Knowing that be would need
shorthand in his work, he studied phonography
and is now a rapid and ac?
curate stenographic reporter, as well
as a fast and careful operator of the
typewriter. Next winter, he will take
up the study of law at Georgetown
university, attending lectures in spare
hours, as do many of the private secretaries
in Washington. This summer
Mr. Wingard is with his chief at
Lexington, where Mr. Lever has an
office; They are resting a little, but
there is much work to do and not a
day passes that the beloved congressman
and his Fidus Achates do not
put in several hours in the service of

Lexington is scheduled for Tuesday,
July 14th.
State Union President Harris will
bejthere to tell the farmers of Lexington
county the aim,' principles and !
plans of our organization. President
Harris is an able man?one that knows
what he is talking about. I feel sure
after hearing him you will have much
to think about.
When nearly every other class under
the sun is organized it is scarcely
necessary to ask if the farmers should
not do likewise. The farms of this
county are the basis of prosperity,
yet the men who till them are more
at the mercy of speculators, trusts
and combines than any other class of
laborers. From a business point of
view it is a plain, practical proposition.
Socially, there is no doubt but
what organization will add to the happiness
and pleasure of the farmer and
nis family.
Remember the date and come out |
to hear President Harris.
C. W. SMITH,
County Secretary and Treasurer.

cut 400,000 feet, and while it has some
poor land on it, there is some real
good land in the lot. All for the small
price of $900."
