RIGrHT TO CRITICISE.
Jury Upholds Exposure by Press of
Misconduct in Office.
The jury in the libel suit for $100,000
brought by L. E. Jones, formerly
county auditor, against the Ohio
State Journal, Columbus, brought in
a verdict for the defendant. It is reported
by the Journal as a vindication
of the right of the press fearlessly
to expose misconduct in public office.
In its charges the State Journal
said: "The conduct of the county
auditor's office during the past four
years has been marked by greater disregard
of public interest and bolder
methods of personal graft than have
ever obtained in any cffice in the history
of Franklin county." At the
same time the Journal revealed methods
by which the inventories in the
probate court of dead men's estates
had been used to gain information
concerning omitted property upon
which tax inquisitors had been paid
thousands of dollars. The inquisitor
was not legally entitled to the percentage
upon such property.
In the prosecution of the suit for
libel Mr. Jones sought to show that
tie State Journal's charges were not
true.?American Press.

making his stay on earth 19 years, 10
months and 20 days. He was a son
of E. Austin Smith and Marina r.iia

The Lord called him in the young
manhood of his life. He has gone to

Baptist church in the presence
of a large congregation. The people

Bight Bind of Judge.
Judge Aldrich, at Aiken, recently
sentenced two young white men of
good appearance to the chaingang for
a period of 9ix months for selling
whiskey. The young men plead guilty
and asked for the mercy of the
court. They were not allowed the
alternative of paying a fine. Judge
Aldrich is right and for the good of
the country we hope the other judges
of this state will follow his example.

You won't tell your family doctor
the whole story about your private
illness ? you are too modest. You
need not be afraid to tell Mrs. Pinkham,
at Lynn, Mass., the things you
could not explain to the doctor. Your
letter will be held in the strictest confidence.
From her vast correspondence
with sick women during the
tbivfv vpats she mav have
gained the very knowledge that will
help your case. Such letters as the following,
from grateful women, establish
beyond a doubt the power of
LYDIA &PiSmHAM'S

Mrs. Norman R. B&rndt, of Allentown,
Pa., writes:
" Ever since I was sixteen years of
age I had suffered from an organic derangement
and female weakness; in
consequence I had dreadful headaches
and was extremely nervous. My physician
said I must go through an operation
to get well. A friend told me
about Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable
Compound, and I took it and wrote you
for advice, following your directions
carefully, and thanks to you I am today
a well woman, and I am telling
all my friends of my experience."
FACTS FOR SUCK WOMEN.
For thirty years Lydia E. Pinkham's
Vegetable Compound, made
from roots and herbs, has been the
standard remedy for female ills,
and has positively cured thousands of
women who have been troubled with
displacements, inflammation, ulceration,
fibroid tumors, irregularities,
periodic pains, backache, that bearing-down
feeling, flatulency, indigestion,
dizziness,ornervous prostration.

It seems from what the writer has
been able to learn that the voters on
this side of the river are not going to
be treated fairly in regard to the
campaign meetings this summer, as
it is said that we will only be allowed j
two meetings in the entire Fork, and |
that is not enough. Our people on !
this side can't afford to cross the riv- !
er to hear the candidates speak in order
to know who to vote for. We
hope that the executive committee
will give us a fair showing when they
arrange for the meetings.
