Views on the Free Bridge.
To the Editor of The Dispatch:
It has been a long time sinc6 I have
written anything for the press, and I
would not write this, but in looking
over last week'3 Dispatch I notice a
communication from some friend from
Chapin inquiring what has become of
our free bridge. I, likewise, have
been wondering what has become of
it; but unlike him, I hope it has died
the death it deserves. With a half
dozen ferries, more or less, on Saluda
I fail to see the necessity of taxing
the people of Lexington county to
build this free bridge, which will benefit
only a few people who are fortunate
enough to live near, while thousands
of her people will live and die
without ever seeing it.
When business intercourse between
the two sections demand it, then I
say let us have it; until then if we
have business at the county seat we
know how and where to cross and if
it is not of sufficient importance to
justify us in paying the smairamount
of ferriage we would better stay at
nome.
My Chapin friend 9ays: "The majority
of us want it, -while a few are
opposed to it thinking that their tax
will be a little higher." I do not
know if he has reference to Chapin
only or the whole county. If the
whole county I wonder how he has
arrived at this conclusion. In regard
to taxation I want to say that a few
more railroads, a few more bridges,
and a few more raisings of officials
salaries and I think we had better
turn our little farms over to the government
and do like the darkey?have
nothing.
If this bridge question i9 not dead I
think it should be made an issue in
the coming campaign. Tell the people
where it is to be located; tell them
whatit will cost; tell them now much
money we have in the county treasury
; tell them they are to be taxed
to build this bridge, and last and best
of all, let them go to the polls on
election da}7 and say whether or not
they want this bridge.
It is claimed by some that the supervisor
has the power to build this
bridge without consulting the people.
If this be true, then every candidate
aspiring to this office should be required
to state his position and then
toe people would be prepared to -vote
for the man they wanted.
I hope some one who can give us
reliable information in regard to steel
bridge building will come out and tell
us something of the cost of such
bridges and let the people know something
about it. Sam Pack.
Irmo, R. F. D. 1, June 6.
If one feels dull and spiritless, in the
spring or early summer, they call it
' Spring Fever." But there is 110 fever
?usually. It is the after effect of our
winter habits. The nerves are mostly
at fault. Tired, worn-out nerves leave
us lanquid, lifeless, and without spirit
or ambition. A few doses of Dr. Shoop's
Restorative will absolutely and quickly
change all of these depressing symtoms,
The Restorative of cour se won't brin^
you back to full health in a day or two,
but it will do enough in 48 hours to satisfy
you that the remedy is reaching
that "tired spot." Druggists everywhere
are advising its use as a splendid
and prompt general tonic. It gives
more vim and more spirit to the spoon
ful tlian any other known nerve or con
stitutional tonic. It sharpens a failing
appetite, aids digestion, frees sluggisl
livers and kidneys, and brings new life
strength and ambition. Test it a fev
days and be convmced. Sold by Th<

Daily existence is but a struggle.

Doan's Kidney Pills will cure you.
Mrs. J. M. Wheeler, Prosperity, S.
C., says: "My kidneys were out of
order for a long time, causing terrible
pains through my loins and limbs.
There was also a constant aching in
my back and on some occasions, I
could scarcely get about. My kidneys
were 30 frequent in action that
I would be obliged to arise several
times at night and despite the fact
that I consulted several physicians, I
was becoming discouraged and had
about given up hopes of ever being
cured when my son-in-law bought a
box of Doan's Kidney Pills for me.
He had read that they were good for
kidney trouble and induced me to try
them. I did so with the result that
when I had taken the contents of two
boxes, the backache disappeared and
the kidneys were brought back to
their proper condition. I have recommended
Doan's Kidney Pills to many
of my friends and will continue to do
so, as I consider them worthy of all
that can be said in their favor."

upon failure to pay the fine he shall

A Grand Family Medicine.
"It gives me pleasure to speak a good
word for Electric Bitters,"' writes Mr.
Frank Conlan of No. 430 Houston St.,
New York. "It's a grand family medicine
for dyspepsia and liver complications
; while for lame back and weak
kidneys it cannot be too highly recommended."
Electric Bitters regulate the
digestive functions, purify the blood,
and impart renewed vigor and vitality
to the weak and debilitated of both sexes.
