Fitzmaurica's Cost Sale.
The big ten day cost sale at Fitzmaurice's
three arch store, in Columbia,
is now on. Dry goods, notions,

was never offered to the people of
Columbia and surrounding territory.
If you need goods now, or expect to
need any soon, you cannot afford to

money saving event.
Pianos and Organs.
In this issue we print an advertisement
for Mr. G.^ A. Lucas, who for1
several years represented the music
house of Thomas & Barton and who
is well and favorably known to the
people of Lexington county. Mr.
Lucas has gone into business for himself,
and the pianos he is offering are
the best in the world. He can sell
you a high-grade instrument at the
price usually paid for medium grade
pianos. Read his advertisement and
when you want a musical instrument
see him before buying elsewhere. *
Mr. Lucas is also one of the finest
piano tuners in the country and if
your instrument needs attention drop
bim a card at Augusta, Ga.
Mianaugh's Offerings.
There is no rubbinsr it out, Mim- j
naugh's offerings just now surpass
anything we have ever seen in Columbia.
Such an array of merchandise
has never been shown under one roof
* before, and the prices are enormously
low. The millinery department is
bubbling over with new creations, all
of which are exquisite models, and
the beautiful woman finds no difficulty
in selecting a hat which makes
her still more beautiful. The display
of waists meets every demand?the
finest showing of ready-to-wear
waists in the Carolinas.
When you buy of Mimnaugh you
, have the satisfaction of knowing that
it is up-to-the-minute in style, and
the best that experience and money
can buy. ZNIr. Mimnaugh is ever
alert, and with the ready cash, never
lets a bargain pass. This has been
his policy for several years, and he
has recently made the best deals of
' his life.
Go to Mimnaugh's for whatever j
you want in the dry goods, notion
and novelty lines, and you'll buy
.goods cheaper than you have ever
bought them before.
Tried to Assmlt Little Girl.
Anthony Robinson, a twelve-yearold
negro, attempted to criminally
assault the five-year-old daughter of
Mr. J. H. Sandifer, in Columbia, a
Gervais street grocer, at his home on
Lady street Saturday afternoon. The
child had been playing in the yard
and Mrs. Sandifer alarmed by her
screams, rushed out to find her in an
out house in the grasp of the negro.
As he ran she threw a brick at him,
hitting him on the head, and the
police were promptly notified and
soon had Robinson u$der arrest. He
made a full confessioh.
On account of Mrs. Sandifer
promptly going to the rescue, the
child was not injured, though she was
Hadlv fritrhtpriAd arid is suffering some
from the shock.
The father has visited the negro at
the jail, and is taking the matter as
calmly as could be expected of him.
He wants the law to take its course.

upon the teachers, Mr. J. W. Ballentine,

which was greatly appreciated by
the extremely large audience.
Last week was one of the busiest
weeks in our town for sometime past.
The sudden rise in the price of cotton
brought from 160 to 275 bales from all
parts of the community.
Several new buildings are expected
to go up in our town in the near future.
The Woodmen of the World lodge
are contemplating building a large
brick building for a hall on the second
floor and store room on the lower.
The town council is endeavoring to
buy a lot and erect a town hall, market,
etc.
Mr. J. H. Wise will build a large
brick store in the near f uture and will
ooen a complete line of general merchandise.
Mr. W. B. Shealy will commence
his new dwelling in the next few
weeks.
Mr. R. T. Williams, of Atlanta, has
returned from a visit to see his wife
and little Miss Williams. Mrs. Williams
has spent the last three months
here with her sister, Mrs. J. K. Derrick.
Mr. Williams holds a very
| prominent position as chief clerk to
I the superintendent of the Southern
railway in Atlanta.
Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Stewart, of Columbia,
are on a few days visit to relatives
and friends. Mrs. Stewart is
recovering from an operation which
she recently underwent at the Co*
