The Church and Voters.
The Baptists of Laurens propose to
instruct their members how to vote.
From measures it is only one step to
men. The fact is that has been attempted
in some counties already. In
1901 resolutions were passed by the
Baptist church of Laurens setting
forth rules of discipline. These rules
' ' 1 - 1 *-- ivi rVQTl tlVfl 1
are related tj trouuucw m
Mr. Thayer, pastor of that church, recently
said: "The First Baptist
church of Laurens would not tolerate
as a member a dispenser or any maV
who sells intoxicating liquors; this
being true, none the less should it forbid
any of its members to vote for the
sale of whiskc;*; either by individuals,
state or county'" From this it appears
that the church intends to exercise
its right of discipline over the
voting of ito members. The cry of
interference with "personal ;, liberty"
will be made; this was disposed of in
the following manner by the speaker:
"Personal liberty exists so long as the
act of the individual has no effect upon
the public; otherwise he assumes
a responsibility to the public when he
committed any act affecting others."
The apparent meaning of the above
is that church members will not be
allowed to vote for dispensary candidates.
They must not hold the church
with one hand grip, the dispensary
and dispensary candidates with the

The Most Common Cause of
Suffering.
Rheumatism causes more pain and
suffering than any ether disease, for the
reason that it is the most common of all
ills, and it is certainly gratifying to sufferers
to know that Chamberlain's Pain
Balm will afford relief, and make rest
and sleep possible. In many cases the
relief from pain, which is at first temporary,
has become permanent, while
in old people .subject to chronic rheumatism,
often brought on by dampness
or changes in t iie weatner, u penuaucut
cure cannot be expected; the relief from
pain which this liniment affords is
alone worth many times its cost. 25

Tired nerves, with that "no ambition'
feeling that is commonly felt in spring
or early summer, can be easily anc
quickly altered or taking what is knowr
i to druggists everywhere as Dr. Shoop,s
Restorative. One will absolutely note
a changed feeling within 48 hours aftei
beginning to take the Restorative. The
bowels get sluggish in the winter-time,
the circulation often slows up, the Kid
) neys are inactive, and even the Hearl
in many cases grows decidedly weaker.
Dr. Shoop's Restorative is reccgnized
everywhere as a genuine tonic to these
vital organs It builds up and strengthens
the worn-out weakened nerves; it
sharpens the failing appetite, and universally
aids digestion. It always quick
ly brings renewed strength, life, vigor,
' and ambition. Try it and be convinced,

THE PERFECT WAY.
Scores of Lexingion Citizens Have
Learned it.
If you suffer from backache,
There is only one way to cure it.
;^The perfect way is to cure the kidneys.
A bad back means sick kidneys.
Neglect it, urinary troubles follow.
Doan's Kidney Pills are made for
j kidneys only.
i V>\ F. Ewart. Johnstone St., New|
berry. S. C., says: "Several years j
ago! used Doan's Kidney Piils with |
such good results that i gave a state- j
merit recommending them. Today I :
think just as highly of them and hope
others who are suffering from kidney
trouble will give them a trial. For
quite awhile my kidneys were disordered
and caused me to suffer a 1
great deal from pain across the small
of my back and through my loins.
The kidney secretions contained a
sediment, were discolored and so frequent
in action as to oblige me to
arise several times at night. I tried
several remedies but obtained no benefit
and when I had Doan's Kidney
Pills brought to my attention by reading
of the cures that they were performing,
I purchased a box. I used
them according to directions and in a
short time my back regained its
strength and I was freed from pain, j
My kidneys were also strengthened
to a great extent and I was once
more able to control the secretions."

Death of Hrs. Busby.
We regret to chronicle the sad
death of Mrs. John Busby, which occurred
at her home near Shady Grove,

death.
