Commencement at St. Andrews.
To the Editor of The Dispatch:
On last Friday evening Miss Mattie
Young's school at St. Andrews, in
the Fork, closed for the session, after
an uninterrupted period of seven
months. The exercises commenced
at S p. m., with one of the largest
crowds ever seen at the school house,
Lexington and Richland counties being
well represented.
The recitations and dialogues were
of a high and inteligent order, and
the training showed the touch of an
inteligent and patient mind to arrive
at what was as near perfection t-o the
ideas of one whose school days were
f* r*j
ni&y years ago.
The weather was fine, the crowd
large and extra good humor prevailed,
and, to crown it all, the ladies were
vivacious. I could mention some excellent
actors, but for fear of partiality
I refrain.
Miss Young is a native of Laurens
county and a graduate of Mt. Amonia
Lutheran College of North Carolina,
and a musician of a high character.
She is extremely popular here.
After the exercises by the school,
Rev. Kline made a short address on
the advantages of an education.
