CIRCITLATION 2.228.
Wednesday, May 13, 1908.
County politics are waxing warm.
"Wherever you go its all the talk.
It is thought that congress will be
ready to adjourn by May 25th.
The Southern Railway will greatly
increase its profits by having trains
!Nos. 133 and 13-1 placed back on its
Columbia and Augusta line.
"If the newspapers who are opposed
to Bryan want to get the next strongest
Democrat why don't they select
Senator Tillman. Ben Tillman is certainlv
a stronger man than John Johnson."?Anderson
Intelligencer. Pretty
good suggestion.
In appointing Gen. Wilie Jones in ,
his place as member of the national
Democratic executive committee,
Senator Tillman displayed his usual
srood iudement. The Senator will '
sail for Europe sometime this month,
which will prevent him from attending
the Denver convention. J
The astounding fact that Columbia
merchants fail to appreciate the value "
of a boat line, is disappointing to
' those who have watched that city's
growth during the past few years. It <
is hoped that her merchants will wake (
up to the importance of the situation and
give the boat line such patronage ]
in the future as will guarantee its
continuance.
The county campaign, which bids j
fair to be the most interesting in re- j
cent years, will soon open and if you ;
> are not already a subscribei to The J
Dispatch you should become one at t
once. The Dispatch will print all the news,
just as it is, as the campaign
progresses, and we will do this in a
fair and impartial manner. If you .
want to know what is going on in the
k . county campaign join The Dispatch
. band-wagon at once. ^
We are glad to know that the pec- *
pie all along the line are taking active
step9 to have the Southern railway
replace passenger trains Nos. 133
and 134 on its main line between . Columbia
and Augusta. The need of fi
these trains is growing more appar- I
ent every day, and we believe that I ;
such overwhelming influence will be
brontjht to bear upon the manage- e
menfc ol the road as to cause them
to i4<*ve these trains pet on at an early a
date. We hope so, at any rate. ?
< r
The Peruchi-Gypzene company
opened the season at the Hyatt Park G
Casino, in Columbia, on Monday f<
night. This is the same troupe that so fi
completely captivated the theatre- S
going public of Columbia last season, rt
and it goes without saying that the
season of 1908 will be a record-breaker ?(
in point of attendance. Mr. Peruchi
and Miss Gypzene are two of the finest
performers on the American stage
and the management of the Hyatt
Casino are to be congratulated upon
securing them for the entire-season. ^

Mr. A. W. Hail, of Varennes township,
brought to this office Friday a
dead four legged and four winged
chicken. The wings and legs were all
well developed, and had the fowl lived j
no doubt Mr. Hall could have secured i
