The Lien Law.
To the Editor of The Dispatch:
With your permission I will pen a
few thoughts engendered by the acts
or non-acts of our general assembly.
We hear a great deal about class legislation
in the northern part of our
common country ana i wouiu reiumu
our people that we have it here in
perfection. It is true that we have
no vastly rich people, but it is also
true that the moneyed men have the
laws made to suit themselves. Take
this Lien law and examine it closely.
It is, commercially, what the right to
vot? is, politically, tp the negro. If
a negro has no right to kill my vote
he has no right to stand on an equal
footing with the poor white men of
the country on a commercial basis.
If we allow him by law to sustain a
credit without honor whefe is the
poor man's chance to compete with
him? If this law was repealed then
credit would be based on honor and
credit would be obtained at less cost
to the borrower. This thing of putting
all the benefits of the law in the
creditor's hand is what makes the
t
Lien law so satisfactory to the merchants
and large land holders, but
where does any benefit come to the
..white tenant? He is classed with the
negro by the merchants and is the
second class at that, as they prefer
the negro as long as the Lien law is
on the statute books.
White supremacy cannot be peaceably
sustained if the laws are not so
amended as to make a man's word
haye weight in his business. The
white people owned all the lands at
the close of the war, but present figures
show that they do not own it alL.
now. If the negroes by iridirect favoritism
have gotten so far, why
can't they go on? And if they do
where will the white man be? You
may saj7 it will take a long time, but
time goes on and we judge the future
by the past. The white people should
stop pledging their souls for gain and
think of this beginning of the final
end if laws are not made to uphold the
honorable man and place a poor
white man, if honorable, above the
negro in every respect.
White supremacy has been our
watchword in the past when we made
history. Let us bring back the old
cry and keep America for Americans
of the Anglo Saxon type.
Yours for white supremacy,
N. E. R. B.
How to Avoid Appendicitis.
Most victims of appendicitis are those
who are habitually constipated. Orino
Laxative Fruit Syrup cures chronic constipation
by stimulating the liver and
bowels and restores the natural action
of the bowels. Orino Laxative Fruit
Syrup does not nauseate or gripe and is
mild and pleasant to take. Refuse substitutes.

We Axe Responsible for Crime.
"To the trained observer of life it
is obvious that criminals are not on
the whole to blame for their vicious
career.
"For twenty-five years, as a police
reporter in New York, I saw all the
wickedness of depraved human nature,"
says Jacob Riis in the May
Delineator. "I saw a seemingly unending
succession of young rascals?
so the police had stamped them and
the record on the station house blotter
bore them out?going from the slums
through the wicket-gate of the Tombs
to the prison and to the gallows, and
it was a sight to discourage anyone
whose horizon was limited by our
earth-life. The chill of it abides with
me yet. But behind it all I made out
also what it was that had depraved
their poor human nature, and that
the responsibility lay with us who let
it be, whose neglect of the neighbor
that had fallen among thieves was to
blame for it all. The world is no
worse than we make it. We can also
make it good."

To the Editor of The Dispatch:
The closing exercises of Mascedonia
school were interesting and largely
attended, Lexington, Newberry and
Saluda counties. The recitations,
dialogues, etc., were well rendered
and a song and march by the school
was intensely interesting. ,
Miss Arna Derrick, the highly accomplished
teacher, and under whose
supervision the exercises were gotten
up, needs no praise from this writer.
Her good work in the Mascedonia
school will be felt for many years.

Kennedy's Laxative Cough Syrup?
the cough syrup that tastes nearly as
maple sugar and which children like so
well to take. Unlike nearly all other
cough remedies, it does not constipate,
but on the other hand it acts promptly
yet gently on the bowels, through
which the cold is forced out of the system,
and at the same time it allays inflammation.
Always use Kennedy's

Cat Starts $16,000 Fire.
A cat ran into the barn of Wm.
Schreiber in Tonawanda, New York,
recently and overturned a lantern,
which set fire to the barn and did
about $15,000 damage to Schreiber's
property. The fire from the barn
spread to the house of J. H. Lewis
and W. O. Lewis and did another
$1,500 damage there. When the fire
was put out it was learned that the
cat had been chased by a dog and
that the dog had been sicked at the
cat by a small boy who chanced to be
passing in the street.
Kodol for Dyspepsia has helped thousands
of people who have had stomach
trouble. This is what one man says of
it: "E. C. DeWitt& Co., Chicago, 111:
?Gentlemen?In J897 I had a disease of
the stomach and bowels. I could not
digest any thing I ate and in the spring
of 1902 I bought a bottle of Kodol and
the benefit I received from that bottle
all the gold in Georgia could not buy.
I still use a little occasionally as I find
it a fine blood purifier and a good tonic.
May yon live long and prosper. Yours

To weak and ailing women, there is at least one
way to help. But with that way, two treatments,
must be combined. One is local, one is constitutional.
but both are important, both essential.
Dr. Shoop's Night Cure is the Local.
Dr. Shoop's Restorative, tne Constitutional. _
The former?Dr. Shoop's Night Cure?isa topical
mucous membrane suppository remedy, while Dr.
Shoop's Restorative is wholly an internal treatment.
The Restorative reaches throughout the
entire system, seeking the repair of all nerve,
all tissue, and all blood ailments.
The "Night Cure", as its name implies, does its
work while yousleep. It soothes sore and inflamed
mucous surfaces, heals local weaknesses and
discharges, while the Restorative, eases nervous
excitement, gives renewed, vigor and ambition,
builds up wasted tissues, bringing about renewed
strength, vigor, and energy. Take Dr. Shoop's
Restorative?Tablets or Liquid?as a general tonic
to the system. For positive local help, use as well
