Blev Out iSis Brains.
Stealing himself away from a sick
wife to whom he had just given a dose
of medicine, and three young children,
P. B. Edwards, a well known
white farmer, residing about six miles
north of Lexington, went out behind
his garden early Monday morning
and with a oS-calibre Harrington and
Richardson revolver, blew out his
brains.
When he was foune a tew moments
later by members of the household he
was in an unconscious condition. Dr.
E. P. Derrick, of Lexington, was hastily
summoned and an examination of
the wound showed that the bail had
entered just above the right ear, and
the case was pronounced a hopeless
one, but with the hope that an operation
might save his life and as a last
resort the injured man was taken to
the Columbia Hospital on the 2 o'clock
train. But an Operation was not performed,
the hospital surgeons agreeing
with Dr. Derrick, that it would
be of no avail, and h9 died about half
past nine yesterday morning. The
remains were brought to Lexington
on the afternoon train and the body"
will be carried to the White church,
near his late home, this morning and
the burial will take place at 11 o'clock.
Just what caused Mr. Edwards to
take his life when a wife and three
small children were dependent upon
him for food and raiment will perhaps
never be known, but it is a well known
fact that he had brooded over finanj
cial affairs for several weeks and, it
i is said, that on more than one occasion
he had threatened to take his
I life. In fact, it is said, that no later
j than Sunday he told some member of
[ his family that he was going to put
i an end to his troubles. He was about
| 45 years old.
