To the Editor of The Dispatch:
The Union meeting of the Ridge
\ Association met with the Baptist
church Saturday and Sunday, the 28th
>fuad 29th of March. An interesting
program was arranged for both cays.
The sermon preached by Rev. Law\
.v son, pastor of the Johnston Baptist
church, on Sunday, was one of the
most impressive sermons ever delivered
in this town. The Union brought
a large number of ministers and laymen
of the Baptist denomination to
ours town while the meeting was in
progress.
Messrs^ Ira C. Carson and J. J.
Bawl were elected Wardens last Tuesday
to fill the vacancies caused by the
resignations of Messrs. D. Peyton
} Hartley and J. R. Padgett.
The district convention of the Odd
' Fellows met with the Batesburg lodge
Tuesdav afternoon. The different
lodges In the district were represented.
Among the delegation from Lexington
was Hon. D. Frank Eflrd, who
delivered an instructive address to the
members of the order Monday afternoon.
Mr. J. A. Summersett, of Colombia,
had charge of the meeting

the Saluda bar attended the Union
meeting here Saturday and Sunday.
Treasurer Frank W. Shealy was in
town on business Monday afternoon.
Mrs. J. C. Cullum returned last week
from a, visit to relatives in Flbrida.
The waste house of the Middleburg
Mills and valued at $500, was destroyed
by fire yesterday afternoon at
about six o'clock. Last night the
ginnery of the Planter's Storage Company
was discovered to be on fire between
"10 and 11 o'clock and inspite oi
the efforts of the fire department, the
building was entirely lost. The ginnery
was valued at between $3,00C
and $5,000, which is partially covered
by insurance. The warehouse located
near the ginnery was saved through
the efforts of the fire department, who
responded promptly to the alarmMarch

Folioa School Closing.
The Dispatch acknowledges with

Mr. Jeff B. Amiet's aanasome
Besidence Burned.
On Monday morning about 10 o'clock
fire was diseoveied in the kitchen of
the handsome residence of Mr. Jeff
B. Amick on upper Maih street, and
before help could be summoned, the
building, with very nearly all the
contents, were totally burned down.
It was by the most desperate and
heroic efforts of those who answered
the call of the "bucket brigade" that
the residence of Mr. John Caughman,
which is near Mr. Amick's, was saved.
It is thought that the firp originated
from the stove. There was no one in
the house at the time, Mrs. Amick
being at work in the garden and the
children were at school. Mr. Amick's
loss is considerable, as his residence
was one of the most handsome in that
part of town, and valued at about
$2,500. It is said that the insurance
on the building amounted to $1,250,
but there was no insurance on the
household goods and the clothing of
the entire family was lost.
Democrats Organize.
The Presidents of the Democratic
clubs of Lexington county are hereby
instructed to call a meeting of their
clubs on Saturday, April 25th, for reorganization
and tc elect delegates to
the county convention to be held at
. the court house on Monday, May 4th.
It is important that the club meetings
be well attended.
Each club should elect for the next
j i two years, a president, one or more
| vice-presidents, a recording secretary,
a corresponding secretary, a treasur|
er and a member of County Execu^
tive Committee. There should be apI
j pointed a committee on registration,
one on club enrollment and such

club presidents are requested to annonce
to the club that everybody
must be registered this year to vote
in general election. Each club is entitled
to one delegate to the County
Convention for each 25 members or
majority fraction thereof and the

The sad news of the death of Mr.
Walter Hite has just reached here.
His remains will be placed in the
Cedar Grove cemetery tomorrow.

at home for a short time with his parents,
Mr. and Mis. W. D. Crout.
Master Grover Oxner is now suffering
from a bone felon on the index
finger of his right hand.
Mr. Hallman, of the firm of Hallman
& Hammond, is in Columbia on
business to-day.
Mr. Lewie Hallman has added a
weeder to his farming tools. Lewie
is one of our most progressive farmers.
Messrs. Willie and Archie Donley
spent Sunday with their parents, Mr.
and Mrs. W. H. Donley.
