The house on Friday took up for consideration the bill appropriating $403,030 for the payment of the claims ] of the Roman Catholic church in the ! During the debate Mr. Crumpacker of Indiana said that he was informed that the claim of the Southern Methodist publishing house for $208,000 ' was based on a loss of only $50,000. i This broughtMr. Gaines of Tennessee to his feet. A petition is being circulated in Williamsburg county for a division of that county and the new section nam-- : ed Rutledge. Shumpert wa9 made cheer ful by the gathering of many relatives and friends, who came to celebrate his eightieth birthday. ^ Brother Shumpert is a Methodist minister, loved and respected by all who know him.
