Gaston Chronicles.
To the Editor of The Dispatch:
The sound of the plowboy can now
be heard in all directions. Some of
the farmers are now planting corn.
Rev. LeRoy Lucas will preach in
the church here on Sunday, the 22nd.
Miss Sally Kelly is improving, after
being ill for several days.
The Messrs. Martin, sons of the
late W. T. Martin, of Columbia, were
guests of Mr. J. A. Lucas recently
and enjoyed hunting.
We are sorry to learn that Mr.

accident; a rew aaya ago wane ne was
traveling his route. The buggy run
over a log, the horse jumped, the
traces broke and Billy and the buggy
was left behind. The horse didn't
stop until he reached the postoffice.
Carrier No. 2, fearing that something
had happened to his brother^ carrier,
went to look for Billy. He met the
poor fellow coming into to town pulling
his demolished buggy through
the sand beds. Carrier No. 2 picked
him up and brought him on to town.

H. A. Howell of Havana,
Cuba, Recommends Chamberlain's
Cough Remedy.
"As long ago as I can remember ,m3*
mother was a faithful user and friend
of Chamberlain's Cough Remedy, but
never in my life have I realized its true
ralue until now," writes Prof. H. A.
Howell, of Howell's American School,
Havana, Cuba. "On the night of February
3rd our baby was taken sick with
a very severe cold, the next day was
worse and the following night his condition
was desperate. He could not lie
down and it was necessary to have him
in the arms every moment. Even then
his breathing was difficult. I did not
think he would live until morning. At
last I thought of my mother's remedy,
Chamberlain's Cough Remedy, which
we gave, and it afforded prompt relief,
and now, three days later, he has fully
recovered. Under the circumstances I
would not hesitate a moment in saying

This woman says Lydia E.
Pinkham's Vegetable Compound
saved her life. Read her letter.
Mrs. T. C. Willadsen, of Manning,
Iowa, writes to Mrs. Pinkham:
"1 can truly say that Lydia E. Pinkham's
Vegetable Compound saved my
life, and 1 cannot express my gratitude
to you in words. For years I suffered
with the worst forms of female com
plaints, continually doctoring and
spending lots of money for medicine
without help. I wrote you for advice,
followed it as directed, and took Lydia
E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compc'ind and
it has restored me to perfect health.
Had itj not been for you I should have
been in my grave to-day. I wish every
Buffering woman would try it."
FACTS FOR SICK WOMEN.
For thirty years Lydia E. Pinkham's
Vegetable Compound, made
from roots and herbs, has been the
standard remedy for female ills,
and has positively cured thousands of
women who have been troubled with
displacements, inflammation, ulceration,
"fibroid tumors, irregularities,
periodic pains, backache, that bearing-down
feeling, flatulency, indigestion,
dizziness,or nervous prostration.
Why don't you try it ?
3Irs. Pinkham invites all sick
women to write her for advice.
She has guided thousands to
health. Address, Lynn, Mass.
Politics in Orangeburg.
A special from Orangeburg to the
Charleston News and Courier says:
"The latest political talk about Orangeburg
is in reference to Congressman
Lever's candidacy for the long
term iD the United States Senate. It
is known that Mr. Lever has been
urged by many friends in his district
to make'the race, and that he has had
the matter under advisement for some
time, even before the death of Senator
Latimer. Representative Lever's
friends are in earnest in this matter
and are interesting themselves actively
in his behalf. They argue that
hi3 services in the House have been
so eminently satisfactory to his constituents,
not alone in his district, but
throughout the entire State, that in
the event of his becoming a candi
date he will oe noerany supponeu
from every quarter. He could, no
doubt, count on practically the solid
vote of the counties comprising his
Congressional district. Like eyery
other man in public life, Mr. Lever
desires advancement. That is understood;
but no one fancies relinguishing
a \ certainty without reasonable
assurance of attaining what is now
merely prospective. This seems to
be Mr. Lever'^ position and, after all?,
it is up to him to cast the die and determine
what course he will pursue."

A Fine Piece cf Road.
About four miles of the old Augusta
road has been clayed and put in proper
shape through the efforts of the
good people living in the vicinity of
Mr. Will Taylor's, about five miles
west of Lexington. Mention of this
undertaking has been made in these
columns before, and now that the
work has been finished, it behooves
other sections to take up the matter
of road building. We understand that
the county will agree to advance Si.00
to every doliar raised by popular subscription
or otherwise, and this should
tend to awaken a deeper interest
among our people.
Mr. Wiil Taylor deserves a great
deal of credit for so successfully working
up this scheme. Mr. James Fields
had direct charge of the work on the
road above mentioned, which reflects
credit upon his good judgment as a
road builder.
