Jesse Gaston, a native of this : State, is meeting with unusual success | in special work in thq Philippines. A recent cispaten says:* 4'Lieut. Jesse Gaston has been transferred from the Fifteenth to the Eighi teenth infantry. He is new acting as j president of the municipality of Dansalan, Mindanao, which is in the district of the most disaffected Moros. He has had unusual success in dealing with these people and has been highly commended by the ranking officers in the Philippines. His abilities as a diplomat have led to his being transferred to the Eighteenth infantry so that he may continue in his present position. "Tins transfer will give tne regi^ menfc two men who are especially familiar with conditions in Mindanao. Lieut. J. M. D. Locket, formerly an officer in the Philippine scouts, has been over this part of the islands many times and has made a map of,the region around Lake Lanao, near which | the Eighteenth will be stationed." Choat recently said at a lawyer's dinner: "We lawyers couldn't do better than resolve, on the new j'ear, to be gentler in cur crossexaminations. Rudeness in cross examaminations never pays. This is a truth I once saw proven in a damage suit. In this suit a crossexamining lawyer shouted at a witness in overalls: "You there in the overalls, how much are you paid for telling untruths?" "Less than you are," the witness retorted, "or you would be in overalls too." \ j iGive Up to Die B. Spiegel, 1204 IT. Foley's Kidney Cure was recommended and the first bottle gave me great relief, and after taking the second bottle I was entirely cured." Why not let it help you ? Kaufmann Drug Co.
