How to Lead Them Aright and Coun*
teract Bad Habits.
The child's tendencies should be
carefully watched, and everything in
him which appears vicious or nupieasant
should be nipped in the bud,
says the Chicago Tribune.
If a child is careless of his toys and
breaks and defaces them, the proper
punisnment is to take them from him
and say he cannot have them for a
certain period of time, and then give
them to him when he promises to
take care of them. It is bad policy
to be continually buying new toys for
a child who is destructive and disobedient.
These are not qualities to
be encouraged by frequent rewards
of gifts.
If a child is cruel and domineering
to its little associates, it should be
sternly reproved and taught to behave
gently and humbly. Boys should be
taught to be tender and chivalrous to
all girls and particularly to their sisters.
Children who treat their pets
roughly and cruelly should be deprived
6f them. No right minded person
places a little helpless^umb creature
in tlie power of young children who
are cruel through a vicious nature.
Tha treatment of nets should be
watched by the mothers of children
having them. Be carefnl how yon
criticise the efforts of the children.
The clipped wing never glows again.
Make it a matter of concience never
to mislead a child, for he is a traveler
newly arrived from a strange country.
Allow him %as his world widens to
have opinions of his own; let him be
a personality / not a mere echo. Make
your home the center of attraction to
your children; let them feel drawn to
you and-it, like the needle to the pole.
Respect the secrets of your qbildren,
but do not worry them to confide in
you.?Ex.
The Experience of a Poultry
Dealer.
Only in recent years has poultrykeeping
taken a place among recognized
industries. Many of the successful
poultry men of to-day-.were
not experts when they began, ;?but
had to learn by experience.
"In regard to Sloan's Liniment-for
poultry diseases," writes E. R. Spaulding,
of Jaffrey, N. H., "a disease called
roup is one of the greatest drawbacks
in poultry raising. It is somewhat
similar to distemper in a horse.
After trying and experimenting with
about everything recommended,. I
found that Sloan's Liniment was the
i
speediest and surest remedy for
roup, and I can especially recommend
it for canker in the windpipe."
Send for Dr. Sloan's free book on
Horses, Cattle, Hogs, and poultry.
Address: Dr. Earle S. Sloan, 612 Albany
Street, Boston, Mass.

Eyma To Boiled Eggs.
A well known minister relates that
visiting in the country near here recently
where the family did their own
work, he was awakened quite early
by the tones of a soprano voice singing,
"Nearer My God to Thee," As
the preacher lay in bed he meditated
upon the piety which enabled hi9 hostess
to go about her task early in the
morning singing such a noble hymn.
At breakfast he spoke to her about it,
and told her how pleased he was.
"Oh law," she replied, "that's the
hymn I boil eggs by?three verses for
soft and five for hard."
And the preacher ate the threeverse
eggs.?Johnson News-Monitor.

Headless Body ef Unclad
'Woman Found by Police.
The body of a woman unclad and
headless was found rising and falling
on the waves about 30 feet off shore
near the German building, in Chicago
a few days ago by the police.
The body was that of a young
woman of apparent high station in
life. It was shorn of every article of
raiment?not even a strip of cloth, a
finger ring, a vestige of adornment
being found to giye the authorities a
working clew. } .
There was a score of minor scratches
and bruises over the body in addition
to the major wounds. The top of the
head was completely gone as though
severed with an axe. The neck was
cut and bruised. The right arm was
I fractured. There was a deep gash on
the left groin, the right knee cap was
broken, and there were two clean
cuts just below the heart.
! The police say that nothing but a
blade driven by a human hand could
have caused the marks below the
woman's heart. The body had apparently
been in the water for two
I weeks, possibly longer.
The Pure Pood Law.
Secretary Wilson says, "One of the
objects of the law is to inform the consumer
of the presence of certain harmful
drugs in medicines." The law requires
that the amount of chloroform, opium,
morphine, and other habit forming
drusrs be stated on the label of each
bottle. The manufacturers of Chamberlain's
Cough Remedy have always
claimed that their remedy did not contain
any of these drags, and the truth
of this claim is now fully proven, as no
mention of them is made on the label.
This remedy is not only one of the
safest, but one of the best in use for
coughs and colds. Its value has been
proven beyond question during the many
years it has been in general use. For
sale by Kaufmann Drug.

Obituary.
On the night of December 12, 1907,
the angel of death swooped down on
the quiet little town of New Brookland
when all were peacefully sleep-,
ing, and without a minutes warning
took the spirit of sweet little Lucy
Addie May, the infant daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Howard.. Little
May was born May 30, 1907. She was
a sweet little angel who came to their
home to spend the short period of 6
months and 12 days. God took her
to himself to be a little Angel in heaven
forever. - ,

Counterfeit Certificates.
At Columbus, Ga., during the last
three days while the banks were
closed for the holidays and Sunday,
counterfeiters passed a number of
counterfeit clearing house certificates.
Until the certificates have been taken
in it will not be known to what extent
the counterfeiters have been
passed, but so far fifteen certificates
of twenty dollar denomination have
been unearthed. The clearing house
association has called in all certificates.

E." H. Lambert, of Ev<
Believes Stomach
One of the most Interesting state- 3
ments made recently concerning the 2
-much discussed Cooper theory, that
has spread ever the country during the c
past year, is made by E. H. Lambert, c
a retired business man, whose home is 1
at 115 Francis Street, Everett, Mass. c
Mr. Lambert has this to say in con- 1
nection with Cooper and his medi- i
cines: "Some time ago I read an ar- 1
tide about this man Cooper, in which I
he claimed that stomach trouble was a
directly responsible for most ill health, c
He went on to say that, although his
medicine did nothing but get the stom- f
ach in sound condition, it wonld, in a
many cases, remove kidney and liver a
trouble ana various otner ailments.
He argued from this that the stomach t
"was the main cause of sickness, and
stated that the success he has had .
with his medicines was due entirely
to this fact. ?
"I am now fully convinced that this (
theory is correct, and believe Cooper
has a really remarkable medicine, *
judging from my own experience. i
