Caliioun County Sleotion
Null and Void.
John S. Bowman, Jr., chairman;
W. B. Fogle and T. J. Hart, commissioner^
of election for Orangeburg
county, have decided that the election
held on Dec. 17th was void. Followis
the decision of the board as published
in The State:
"We find some irregularities in several
books, such as voting outside of
right precinct/ not demanding proper
proof of payment of taxes, etc., but ,
wa flnH t.hArA flrfl tint, ennnch of these <
irregularities to change the result of
this election.
"We further find that about 65 or
pore qualified electors, residing with- ,
in the area of the proposed new county
of Calhoun, including, portions of ?!
Orange, Good by s and Poplar townships,
were deprived of the constitutional
fight to vote in this election,
' as the said electors ire residents of ,
the proposed new county, while their ,
voting places are without, and the act ,
of the legislature relating to the for- .
mation of new counties does not pro- i
vide the means or the opportunity to
vote in such case. !
"We therefore find that in depriv- ,
ing these qualified electors of the right j
to vote the constitutional provision i
has Jt>een violated, and on this ground j
we do hereby declare this election
noil and void." ;
It is said that the matter will go j
before the State board and probably
to the supreme court before it is finally .
settled. , 1
