"A Happy Ney- Year" dear old town,
Rejoice in all thy ways
For happy years have come and gone
With brief and neeting days.
Years we've watched thy growth
. In numbers and in wealth;
Imm <*y_
In lovely homes, and lovelier trees;
jj In cleanliness and health.
In pretty streets and shady park3,
Where birds their carols sing,
L. And sunbeams play the livelong day
[ *" And joys supernal bring.
[- The crystal water that we drink,
Springs from the heart of earth;
H As ceaseless as a woman's loye,
Wherever it has birth.
Our men are those of enterprise,
Of gumption, grit and grace,
Who believe that good improvements
Should have no second place,
j Our boys will average well with boys,
I Steady, staid, and true,
With tact and purpose well in hand
The right they will pursue. "
Our girls! Ah, heaven bless them,?]
= No better anywhere,?
They're the kindliest and sweetest
F And fairest of the fair.
\
: Our babies and our littl6 girls;
P Our mothers and our wives,
^ Are beautiful to look upon;
) Are lovely in their lives.
) Our school stands without a peer;
^ With promise great in store,
k- Where "Chesterfield" is taught as well
k ' As Greek, or Latin lore.
k This leads to the higher schools;
^ Our churches, where the soul
^ Is fed from God's Own granaries;
w ' And broken lives made whole.
* The guardian angel's of our homes;
t Where faith and charity

k Burned to Bekth While Bumk
iag Out Chimney.
\ Washington, Ga., Dec. 24.?1The
" news reached Washington last night
= of the fatal burning of Mrs. Lucy
Marshall at her home near Aonia in
this county, nine miles east of here.
(| Mrs. Marshal was at her home Sunday
with her mother and about noon
she decided that it would he a good
time to burn out the chimney which
had been clogged with soot.
She secured several newspapers
with which to make the blast in the
chimney and while sitting near the
open fireplace the last newspaper instead
of being drawn up the chimney,
for some reason fell back into her lap
a roaring ball of flames.
Her clothes became ignited and she
was fatally burned before assistance
could reach her. Her mother was in
the room when the horrible accident
occurred and was forced to see her
daughter litterally burned to death
before hei eyes without being able to
extend help. She is tn her eightyfourth
year and was too feeble to do
more than give the alarm.

The Pure Pood Law.
Secretary Wilson says, "One of tl
objects of the law is to inform the ooi
