Let's talk about something else besides Latimer and the Senatorial The papers throughout the State be filled with plenty of "free ? Advertising" next summer-it will be Campaign year. A visitor in town last week was heard to remark: ;'I have traveled ell over the country, but never before have I seen such miserable, muddy streets in a Aown of this size." Enough said, gentlemen. .According to the Gaffney Ledger not 4 single homicide case was on the docket at the'last term of criminal court for that county, and attributes the same to the fact that Cherokee county has no dispenfaries. But another evidence that prohibition is the best solution of the liquor trade. ? In the sudden demise of Judge \ Andrew Crawford Columbia has lost one of her best citizens. He was our close and bosom friend and we deeply feel his loss. Not only was he a law-; yer of great repute, but as a man he was true to every trust imposed in iwiv hp w*? one of nature's I noblemen/ Peace to bis immortal SODi! XIt looks now like the price of cotton is bound to advance. In fact, fntares and spot cotton have both made gains of several points during the past week. If we were in the gamng business right now we would take a shot at the market; bat since we have never followed the game in all our past life we shall not undertake to make oar fortune in futures now, ho matter how tempting the market. In the face of the census report, and other conditions, we would advise our farmers to hold on to their cotton for at least a few more months, for cotton is sure to advance in avery short time. To-morrow is Thanksgiving, a day set apart by the President of the United States and the Governor of South Carolina, in order that the people, might have an opportunity to give prase and thanks to Him who sets upon the circles of the Heavens for His wonderful goodness and mercy toward all mankind during the past year. This day should not be abused as it no doubt will be. Nearly everybody who takes the day off, spends the time hunting, or in other ??r^: ways not in accordance with the spirit and letter of the. day. There will be services in all of the churches, no doubt, and everybody i in town, who can possibly do so, should attend these services. It would be nothing more than right for our merchants to dose their stores for the day, or part of the day at least, so that the clerks may have an opportunity to spend the day in joyful praise and thanksgiving. la Memory of Jacob L. Hoof. Jacob L. Roof, son of John and Elizabeth Roof, was born 10th of January, 1842, and died 31st of June, 1907. He was baptized in infancy and ' . aoviv iifo Ha jtoa a full member v JU MAV ? ? ~ of Zion Lutheran church, and after% wards had his name transferred to Emannel Lutheran church and remained a member of said church un^ til his death. He married Ann Cromer, sister of Rev. J. A. Cromer, and to them were born seven children and four grand; children. His wife and two children preceded him to the spirit land. He volunteered early in 1862 in Co. H., 20th S. C. V., and served in that company until the close of the war. He was at Johnson's surrender, andwas a good soldier and always ready to do his duty. He was wounded twice; first at Battery Wagener, the - ball entering his mouth and passing MBS.'-.:. - . w 5. out the side of his face, and" again wounded In the thigh at Deepbotfcom i-' . 88 ?oon as he returned to his comU mand. He was liked by all his comrades. He.died happy; his last words were: I would not give heaven for ten thousand such worlds like this. Goodbye. Meet me in heaven," and his ^ ' spirit took its flight to worlds unknown to S. M. R, How to Cure a Cold. W0- Be as careful as you can you will occasionally take cold,"and when you do, get a medecine of known reliability, one that has an established reputation and that is oerfcain to effect a quick cure. Such a medecine is Chamberlain's Cough Remedy . It has gained a world wide Etafcion by its remarkable cures of most common ailment, and can ,ys be depended upon. It acts on nature's plan, , relieves the lungs, aids expectoration, opens the secretions, and aids nature in restoring the system to a healthy condition. During the many years in which it has been in general use we have yet to learn of a single case roM or attack of the grip having re salted in pneumonia when this remeay was used, which shows conclusively that it is a certain preventive of that dangerous disease. Chamberlain's Cough Remedy contains no opium or other narcotic and may be given as confidently to a baby as to an adnlt. For sale by Kanf mart n Drug Co.
