Max' Gunnell, a young man of Brookland, was accidentally shot by his friend, Earle Womble, while the two were engaged in target practice near Brookland yesterday afternoon. The discharge of the breechloader entered the side of Gunnell, inflicting a dangerous wound several inches in size. When the gun was fired it was in the hands of Womble, but up to a late ihour last night there was not any talk in Brookland of having the latter arraigned in connection with the shooting, as it was said to be a case of an accidental firing of the gun in Gunnell's direction. The two young men live in Brookland and are employes of the Columbia Mills company. The affair is regretted very much in the town, where Womble and Gunnell are well known. Gunnell was resting very well last night and while his wound is a serious one there is chance for recovery. ?The State, Nov. 8. * A Hard Debt to Pay.
