Carolina Bankers Meet in Columbia.
The South Carolina Bankers Association
met in Columbia" last Wednesday,
representing the finances of
practically every banking town in the ,
State. They adopted measures which
will relieve the depressed condition
of money in banks. The banks of
Columbia and Charleston are to issue
clearing house certificates, which will

over the State and will be, therefore,
as good as gold for any use and will
greatly relieve the stringency of the
money market, which if allowed to
continue will depress prices of cotton
and farm products ana cause them to
be sacrificed. This step was found
necessarv on account of the stringency
of finances up North.

Brookland Han Shot.
Max' Gunnell, a young man of
Brookland, was accidentally shot by
his friend, Earle Womble, while the
two were engaged in target practice
near Brookland yesterday afternoon.
The discharge of the breechloader
entered the side of Gunnell, inflicting
a dangerous wound several inches in
size.
When the gun was fired it was in
the hands of Womble, but up to a
late ihour last night there was not any
talk in Brookland of having the latter
arraigned in connection with the
shooting, as it was said to be a case
of an accidental firing of the gun in
Gunnell's direction.
The two young men live in Brookland
and are employes of the Columbia
Mills company. The affair is regretted
very much in the town, where
Womble and Gunnell are well known.
Gunnell was resting very well last
night and while his wound is a serious
one there is chance for recovery.
