The fcamber of cotton spindles in
the world, as shown by the report, is
128,332,971. As nearly as it can be determined
the amount of cotton consumed
was 29,49S,441 bales, a weekly
consumption of 374,874 bales. This is
not, however, the total consumption
for toe world, as in a number of eastIern
countries and in South and Central
America large quantities of cotton
Are grown and consumed which do
not enter into commercial channels,'
and therefore can., not be estimated
with any certain ty.^The figures indicate,
however, that the United States

. The State Fair is over and it was
certainly a grand success in exhibits
and attendance. The crowd in Columbia,
and on the fair grounds, were
larger than we ever no'ticed/ih xha
city. E very'eectionof the State was
well represented and all seemed to
enjoy themselves hugely. The circus
on Saturday closed the festivities and
enjoyments of the week.
The South Carolina Agricultural
and Mechanical society^ in annual
session Thursday elected Mr. J. G.
Mobley, of Fairfield, president, to
succeed Mr. G. A. Guignard. The
vice presidents now holding office
were unanimously Reelected. Mr. J.
L. Mimnaugh is the vice president
from this Congressional district.
Mr. A. W. Love was reelected Secretary
as also was Mr. A. G. LaMotte,
treasurer. Senater D. F. Efird was
again elected general manager.
Besolntions were adopted thanking
the retiring president for the efficient
work he has done during the tittle
yeara of his tenure.
Next Tuesday I start out on my
annual rounds throughout the county
accompanying the County Treasurer
cm his tax collections. Edmund, Gaston,
Cross Roads, Macks, Swansea,
Red Store and Brookland will complete
the first week. Second week
we start at Pelion and thence around
and down the. railroad to Gilbert.

caused the grand jury to make the
following report Monday afternoon:
His Honor, Judge Johnstone, presiding:
We, the Grand Jury of Lexington
county, desire to express our appreciation
of the court's remarks in reference
to the negligence of witnesses
responding to their names when call
ed, and deem it our duty to ask your
Honor to have the perdiem and milage
of such witnesses remitted. We
belive by so doing attendance at court
will be improved and the county
saved unnecessary expense thereby.

Our pastor, Rev. J. B. Haigler, is j
now attending anyod at Spartanburg.
Mr. J. C. Shealy has been on the
sick list, but is now feeling better.
Lots of our folks attended the State
Fair and report a very good one.
The ladies of the Aid Society will
give a basket sociable in the school
house at this place next third Saturday
night, Nov. 16th. Come boys
and buy your girl's basket.
Mrs. R. W. M. Eleazer is now at
her father58, Mr. J. B. Shealy. She
stood her operation fine and is doing
very nicely.
Dr. Shealy visited the home folks i
Saturday and Sunday.
