C.?Commissionei Watson has discovered in the persor of Alfred Smith, a negro living neai Killian Station, Richland county, what he believes to be the oldesl living person in the South. According to Smith's statements he is about 132 years old. He remembers when Columbia was a forest, and recalls how it was voted the capital ol the state, which was 115 years ago. He says he lived with his third wife, who died a few years ago, 92 years, and that he has raised seven families. He has one daughter still living in this country. Maaavw +* J San Antonio, Texas, Oct. 26.?A special to the Express from El Paso, Texas, says: Four men and three women, one of the former being a government mail carrier, were ambushed and killed between San Jose de Hila and La Colorado, east of Hermosillo, in the lower Sonora county by Yaquis. The killing was discovered a short time afterwards by a party of American mining men who were traveling over the trail with an escort of Mexican soldiers. Hard Times in Kansas. Sleeth, an aged farmer near Huntsville, Ala., who lived a hermit life, died suddenly while ploughing. There will be 15 tented shows besides the merry-go-rounds, Ferris wheel, etc. There will also be three sensational free attractions, Mazini, the wonderful spiral steeple-chase bicyclist, who was seen here four years ago with Forepaugh & Sells Bros.'circus, being r scheduled to appear afternoon and evening. Another free attraction which is said to be the strongest draw ing card ever put on by any carnival r company is "The Human Monkey." 1 This will consist of a series of aero- . . batic "stunts" unsurpassed by any * other aerial artist in the world, by a ' man so cleverly made up as one of the i cunning little beasts of the African jungle as to be almost indistinguishak ble, it is claimed, from the genuine article except for the difference in 5 stature. There will also be two performances e daity by one of the greatest high-wire bicyclists in the world. This will be a feat in itself worth while coming many miles to see. The high-air-artist will ride a bicycle from one end of a 132 100-foot wire to the other and back, stretched 30 feet from the ground. * J These shows are said to be clean ?in u every particular and are heralded as the finest carnival attractions on the _ road this season. Mr. Hood announcv ed yesterday that there would be no performances given in the day time, but the shows will open up promptly at 6 o'clock p. m. and run until 11 o'clock. A Card.
