Being as our little town has no been heard of in quite awhile, I wil inform the good people of Lexingtoi county through the columns of th< clever old Dispatch, that we are stil among the living; though we are no making much noise, but we are get ting there just the same. Our little town is still on a boon and it bids fair to make greater pro cress in the next twelve months thai it has made in the twelve months jus passed. Mr. N. L. Derrick is building a ver nice residence on the west side o town. Mr. Derrick moved in on midst early last spring and he like: our town so well that he is buildinj and will remain in our midst. The cotton mill question has beei about decided, and ereHwelve month: have passed the harmonious sound o spindles will be heard in the directioi of Chapin. The Chapin ginnery is doing a goo( business. It is kept busy from earl^ morn until late at night. The Bank of Chapin is getting 01 very nicely. Business has increasec so much that they had to get an as sistant. Although this bank is in iti infancy it is already doing an immense amount of business. Our section of the country has beer blessed with good crops this season, Crops like the ones that will be har vested this year will enable the farm ers to have plenty of hog and hominy The C. N. and L. raiiroaa companj has built a cotton platform, as there is an immense amount of cottor bought at this place. Mrs. C. P. Robinson attended the W. C. T. U. convention in Newberry last week. The health of our town is very good at present, although we have had some sickness during the summer. Mr. Chas. P. Robinson is doing a good business with his brick plant. v L. M. It is a sad spectacle to see a poor man or woman hauled before the judge and tried with very little show of defense. But when a man or woman of influence and money is hauled before the court on a charge of felony, mistrials, postponements and jurors adroitly chosen and instructed, will Anally get an acquittal or a much lighter sentence than they deserve. On the merest technicality a new trial can be secured and one fixed juror is enough to make a mistrial. In this county jurors are gradually moving up to a higher plane. The most of them drawn are above being bought. They can be depended on to acquit themselves like fair, honest men who have a regard for justice.?Carolina Spartan. White Book News. Mrs. J. B. Haigler and children have gone on a visit to her mother, Mrs. Havird, of Newberry. Mr. Rice, the superintendent of the C. N. and L. railroad, happened with an accident near here last Tuesday. He ran into a Seaboard passenger train with his motor car and the car was smashed to pieces. He and the negro narrowly escaped; Rev. J. B. Haigler and Mr. J. Ed. Shealy attended conference last week which was held at Springfield, S. C. Our town was saddened last Friday by the death of Mrs. W. P. Crompton who had been in ill health for several months. Roerer Brothers are putting several buildings on their land near here which they purchased from Mrs. Sallie Gibson. They intend starting a lumber and wood business soon. Femine. September 30, 1907.
