AWFUL FATE OF
A LITTLE GIRL.
Ssven-Year-Old Girl Tells of Terrible
Experience at Hands of Unknown
Tramp and Dies Twenty
Minutes Later,
/
A dispatch from Gary, Ind., last
week, says:
Two hundred men, swearing vengeance
against the murderer of little
Ella Schrader, who was found fearfully
lacerated in the outskirts of this
city and died twenty minutes later,
are on the trail of an unknown tramp,
and if he is found there will be a
lynching.
The child, seven years of age, was
found by the roadside by some workmen,
where she had crawled from a
clump of bushes a few yards distant.
She was sobbing piteously and when
picked up by the workmen she was
found to be terribly lacerated and had
evidently bled nearly to death.
The child told her story between
I cries of pain. She said she was play-/
j ing by the roadside when a paan
I grabbed her, placed his hand over her
i mouth and carried her into the woods.
; He left her under a clump of bushes
i and fled down the road.
The workmen started with her to a
physician's office, but they had gone
but a few rods when she died in their
arms. The alarm was sounded and
m?r? ora+hprpH from all r>arts of the
city and assembled in the public
square. The story of the child, repeated
from lip to lip, caused intense
excitement, and two hundred men
I were soon on the trail of the ravishef.
If the Baby is Cutting Teeth,
Be sure and use that old and well tried
remedy, Mrs. Winslow's Soothing
Syrup, for children teething. It soothes
the child, softens the gums, allays
all pain, cures wind colic and is the
best remedy for diarrhoea. Twenty
five cents a bottle. Guaranteed under
the Food and Drug act, June 30,
1906. Serial number 1908.
tf It is the best of all.
Chicago Folios Capture
South Carolina Slayer,
Chicago?The old saying "murder
will out" came true in an unusual
way when policeman Walsh awakened
a man who was asleep in a doorway
of the Illinois Hospital, Washington
Boulevard and Halsted street.
The jnan, long a fugitive from justice,
opened his eyes, saw the police
man's star, and leaped todiis feet with
a shriek.
"You want me for the murder 1
You are a policeman !" he cried, as
i he stood dazed before Walsh. A moment
afterward he collected his wits
and ran, but the policeman, drawing
his revolver, forced the man to stop
and led him to the station.
At the station the prisoner at first
denied being a murderer, but later
broke down and confessed to Lieutenant
O'Conor that he is Charles F.
Burbage. wanted in Greenville, S. C.,
with a man named W. P. T. Rawley*
for the murder of Gus Tanner, a negro,
two years ago.
Would Blossom as the Rose.
S A farmer who does not reside many
miles from Edgefield told the writer
a few days ago that from each plow
on his place he sells every year eight
bales of cotton, 100 bushels of corn,
$50 worth of hogs and about $50
worth of hay. This is an excellent
i showing, and we believe every word
of it, for this gentleman is not given
to blowing his own horn. Just think,
if the farmers of the county would
do half so well year after year old
Edgefield would blossom as the rose
from one end of the county to the
other.?^dgefield Advertiser.

Hanged Himself to a Sapling.
Commerce, Ga., August 28.?Several
days ago, J. K. Wright, a farmer,
a^ed 33 years, had a dispute with his
wife over some trivial domestic matter
and left home. He carried a trace
chain with him and told his wife she
would never see him again. At first
she paid little attention to his remark,
but later became alarmed and notified
neighbors. Today a searching party
found V/right's body dangling from
the end of the chain fastened to a
sapling. He had evidently pulled a
strong young sapling over, tied ' the
end, fastened the chain to the tree
and his neck and then cut the string
which held Jthe tree. He had been
dead sometime when found.
