Negro, Formerly Employed by Farmer Sets Fire to Barn, and While it was Burning was Caught by Farmer': Wife and Her Servant in Act of Rob bing the House, Whereupon h< Chops them to Pieces wtth Axe. Near Merchantsville, New Jersy last week Mrs. Frances Horner, agec 67 years, wife of Edward Horner, i farmer, and Mrs. Victoria Napolie, i servant, were chopped to death ii their home, it is charged, by Charles Gibson a negro who was formerly em ployed on the farm. The assassin first set fire to th( Horner barn. While Horner and Mrs Napolie's husband were trying to rescue some of the horses from the barr Mrs. Horner and her servant cam? upon the negro in the act of robbing the bouse. The robber attacked th( women with an axe and chopped then to pieces. Mrs. Horner's head wai severed and Mrs. Napolie's heac chopped in and her body covered witl gashes. Horner and Napolie returnee to the house to find Mrs. Horner lying in a pool of blood and Mrs. Napolie who was near by, died soon after wards. Two gold watches and a sum o money had been taken from th< house, and the police located tin watches in a pawn shop in Philadel phia, where they had been put by i negro. The pawnbroker, according to the police, identified the negro The pawn tickets were in his posses sion. Stephen Dorsey, another negro wh< ? n Aa oil Vw was WILLI U1U3UU W lie 11, as anggtu ui pawned the watches, was also arrest ed, although the police do not believ< he had anything to do with the mur der. Gibson, who was discharged b} Horner some time ago, applied fo: work yesterday. He was told that h< could sleep in the barn and that h< would be given work in the morning Farmers running to the fire declare that they saw the negro fleeing fron the home. Atlanta, Ga.?Governor Smith ha affixed his signature to the Feldei Williams negro disfranchisement bil approving that measure. [ He stated that he felt especiall pleased to approve the measure an that he felt confident that the peopl would ratify its provisions when snl mitted to them at the next genera election. It was undoubtedly the most popi lar plank in the platform on whic Governor Smith was elected, and i is so framed that while it will disfrar chise 90 per cent of the negroes c the State, the right of franchise c every white man is preserved.
