Addy, an influential and prominent citizen of the Dutch Fork, spent a couple days here this week. Mrs. M. W. Meetze, proprietress of the Kaminer hotel, and her beautiful young daughter, Miss Anna Martha, returned yesterday from a two weeks' stay on the Isle of Palms. Master Ben Graham celebrated his seventh birthday last Friday afternoon with a party of his young friends at the home of his parents, Col. and Mrs. G. T. Graham, on College Hill. Mr. L. P. Alewine, a clever and industrious citizen on Deesville R. F. D. 2 in town Mondav and handed us a dollar for a yearns subscription to The Dispatch. Thanks. See the change in advertisement of Alfred J. Fort, of Pelion, spent Monday and Tuesday here on matters of business. The Colonel is looking well and his many friends were delighted to see him. Misses Nellie and Arline Trice, who have been the charming guests of Rev. and Mrs. W- H. Hiller for the past ten days, returned to their home in Lexington, N. C., yesterday. Miss Martha Hendrix Caughman, the beautiful and facinating daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Caughman, left Monday afternoon for Columbia where she is the guest of her friend, Miss Frances Boll. Quite a crowd from Lexington attended the reunion at Little Mountain Friday. Among them we mention: Misses Icoline Harman, Hellen and May Corley, and Messrs. William M. . Swartz and Samuel Bickley. He is a clever and popular gentleman not only with his. people, but prominent in the State. Miss S. E. Roberts, R. F. D. 1, Providence section, after having spent a delightful visit with relatives and friends on Black creek, in passing through town Monday, kindly remembered the printers with a dollar for a year's subscription. Mr. S. W. Amick and daughters, Misses Claudia and Narcises, two industrious. and pretty young ladies, were over visiting the family of Mr. Charlie Bouknight Saturday and Sunday. Mr. Amick did not forget the printers. At a meeting of the officers of the different churches served by Rev. J. A. Cromer, held at Lexington on August 3rd, it was unanimously resolved to give him a vacation for the- month of September and to increase his salary one-third. Mr onrl Mra T S TTfl.rmfln. Mrs. E. T. Cook and Miss S. E. Roberts all returned home Monday after a pleasant visit to Mrs. Julia Dunbar, on Black creek. All these dear women are sisters and they gathered at Mrs. Dunbar's for a family reunion, which was largely attended and much enjoyed. Mr. Robert Bo we, that gallant and handsome young gentleman from Baltimore, spent last week here. We would like to know what all this means?for surely it means much to him?these frequent visits, the early morning drives, the late afternoon walks?but never mind abnut that; "Every day will be Sunday bye and bye." B&ra Struck By LigJxtuiag. Last Thursday night lightning struck and set on fire the barn of Mr. Hugh Lewis, near Seivern. The barn was totally burned up, as was all its contents?wheat, oats, corn and fodder, besides a lot of other things, were destroyed. A fine milch cow, that was in the stable, was burned to death. ? i Mr. JLewis' loss is a neavy one ana he has the sympathy of his neighbors and friends. Woman Sills Battler. A couple weeks ago, Mrs. H. C. Wise, wife of Mr. Wm. D. Wise, oi Sandy Run, discovered a large rattlesnake lying in the yard under a bush, Her husband not being at home, Mrs, Wise picked up a breech loading shot gun and with deadly aim fired, killing , the snake instantly. It was found that the snake had ter rattles and a button. To the Editor of The Dispatch: Plenty of rain for the past week. Crops in this section are fine. Mr. J. L. Eargle and sister, Mrs. Minnie Friek, both of Chapin, are spending a few days in Newberry with relatives and friends. Rev. Enoch Hite delivered a most excellent sermon at St. Thomas' church on Sunday, July 28. Miss Esther Eargle, the accomplished daughter of Mr. J. L. Eargle, is visiting relatives and friends at Chapin. Mr. W. A. Wessinger is having improvements made on his residence. A large crowd from this section -attended the Little Mountain reunion Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Lindler are re- , ioicing over the arrival of a boy a few days ago. The health of this section is good. Chapin, Aug. 5. W. An Error. An error appeared in the locals last week in reference to the barbecue at Edmund.
