The Lexington Dispatch.
Wednesday, June 12, 1907.
Back from Seuaioa.
All the old soldiers and others from
this county who attended the reunion
in Richmond, have returned home,
singing the praises of the Virginia
people, and beyond question, they
had a glorious time.
Monday, the unveiling 01 tne jenerson
Davis monument, seemed to be
the greatest day of the reunion.
Great crowds thronged the streets;
housetops were covered by men and
boys who were anxious to get a
glimpse of the soldiers and military
parade, which, it is said, formed a
beautiful sight to behold. Beautiful
sentiments were heard on every side,
and the thanks of the entire South
were offered by the orators of the
occasion to the United Daughters of
the Confederacy, whose work it was
that made the Jefferson Davis monument
association a success.
Gen. Clement A. Evans, of Atlanta,
Ga., addressed the following expression
in his speech, which evoked
thunderous applause from the mighty
J throng:
"To the women of the Confederacy,
J whose pious ministrations to our
( wounded soldiers soothed the last
hours of those who died fajr from the
objects of their tenderest love; whose
domestic labors contributed much to
supply the wants of our defenders in
the field; whose zealous faith in our
cause shone a guiding star, undimmed
by the darkest clouds of war; whose
fortitude sustained them under all the
I
privations to which they were sub
jected; whose annual tribute expresses
their enduring grief, love and
reverences for our sacred dead, and
whose patriotism will teach their children
to emulate the deeds of our Revolutionary
sires."
The next reunion will be held in
Birmingham, Ala., in 1908.
He Fired The Stick.
"I have fired the walking-stick I've
carried over 40 years, on account of a 1
sore that resisted eveiy kind of treatment
until I tried Bucklen's Arnica
Salve; that has* healed the soye and
made me a happy man," writes John
Garrett, of North Mills, N. C. Guar- j
anteed for Piles, Burns, etc., by Kaufmann

To the Editor of The Dispatch;
With but few exceptions the health
of this section is good.
The little daughter of Mr. S. E.
, Shealeyhas been quite sick, . buc is
ihuch improved at this writing.
: Mr. T. A. Bouknight is out again,
after being confined to his room for
several days.
The small grain will yield little
more than half a crop.
Farmers are about through chop.
ping cotton. As a role more corn has
been planted this year than usual and
if favorable > conditions prevail the
farmers of this section will live at
home and board at' the same place.
When all farmers/do this the price of
cotton will be easily controlled.
Mr. J. F. Lindler is all smiles over
the arrival of a son at his home.

Unwritten Law Frees Negro.
Columbia, S. C., June 6.?The jury
I in f.Vio (moo nf TnVm .Tnnnha m. nprrro
charged with murder, brought in a
verdict this afternoon of not guilty,
after being out 15 minutes. Jacob's
plea was temporary insanity and the
case was based on the unwritten law.
The accusation against him, on which
the grand jury had returned a true
bill, was the murder of his wife, ^Bessie
Jacobs,
In his charge to the jury Judge
Dantzler disregarded the plea of the
unwritten law, emphasizing the fact
to the jury that in South Carolina
there is no higher law than on the
statute books of the State bearing *on
murder.
There were a number of negro spectators
in the court room when the
verdict was announced, probably 300,
and they made some demonstration,
which was promptly cut off by the
statement from Judge Dantzler: "Put
them in jail, Mr. Sheriff."
It has since developed that the
sdcond charge, that of murdering
Johnson, the wife's paramour, will be
nol nrossed.
The Magic No. 3.
Number three is a wonderful mascot
for Geo. H. Paris, of Cedar Grove, Me.,
according to a letter which reads:
"After suffering much with liver and
kidney tronble, and becoming greatly
discouraged by the failure to find relief,
I tried Electric Bitters, and as a result
I am a well man to-day. The first bottle
relieved and three bottles completed
the cure." Guaranteed best on earth

Columbia-Augusta Railway.
That Columbia and Augusta will
soon be linked together by an electric
railway seems no longer a question
of doubt. The following from the
Augusta Chronicle of June the 2nd
wall be read with general interest:
"The Augusta and Columbia Railway
Company, which was granted a
most liberal charter by the last session
of the South Carolina legislature,
will shortly commence active operations.
As has been stated heretofore this
company already owns the bridge
across the Congaree river, at Columbia.
It has also bought a most valuable
water power on the Saluda river,
which will generate sufficient electrical
power to operate the entire system
of railroads, with branches between
Augusta and Columbia.
The survey for the entire line has
been made and practically ail rights
of way necessary have been secured.
Under the terms of the charter this
company is authorized to own all of
the underlying companies of the present
Augusta-Aiken Railway and Elec- !
trie Company, which is a New Jersey
corporation."
It will be seen from the above that j
the company means ousiness. Presi- j
dent James U. Jackson has just re- j
turned from New York, where he
went to look after the interest of the
line. His report was most favorable
and active operations will soon begin.
The bites and stings of insects, tan.
sunburn, cuts, burns and bruises are relieved
at once with Pinesalve Carbolized.
Acts like a poultice, and draws out inflammation.
