Perry Hutto, assisted by a Mr. Hutto, of New Brookland, have just finished plastering the Baptist church at this place. Mr. and Mrs. Willie Lybrand passed through this place recently en route Pninmhia whfirft thev will make W y their future home. They spent the night with their daughter, Mrs. D. F. Shumpert. The charming and accomplished Miss Linnie L. Clark, who has been attending the Palmetta Collegiate Institute, has returned home to spend her vacation. Miss Julia Shealy and Mrs. Hattie Weed, of New Brookland, have been visiting the family of Mr. Josh J. Shealy. Miss Clagfc Wise, of Columbia, i9 visiting heRisters, Mrs. L. W. Wisg and Mrs. W. F. Best, The infant child of Mr. and Mrs. J. Perry Hutto died Friday, 24th of May, and was buried the following day at New Hope church. Mr. Wesley E. Berry has the finest cotton we have seen this season, but 'Mrs. A. L. Smith reports the first squares. The school at this place closed on Friday, the 31st of May. On account of the unfavorable weather the crowd was not very large. The house was about filled and all seemed to enjoy themselves in spite of the thought of having to return home in the rain. The exercises consisted of recitations, dialogues, tableauxs, drills, etc. The trustees have reelected Prof. Hugh H. Evans to teach the school next session. During his stay among us he ha9 made many warm and lasting friends. Last Friday the many friends and relatives of Mr. Job Shumpert were invited to his home to partake with ' him a birthday dinner. Everyone ate as much a9 they desired, but they ' could not destroy half of the bountiful dinner prepared for them. C., for the murder of his stepfather, Tom Merritt. Matthis severed his victim's head from his body with a single blow from an axe and then burned Merritt's home to ' conceal the crime.
