FAKE DENTIST CAUSES
WOMAN'S DEATH.
Mrs. Corrie Berry, of Newberry, the
Victim. Her Sister Narrowly
Escapes Same Fate?The
Doctor Arrested.
i
Mrs. Corrie Berry died yesterday
while having some teeth drawn by a
man named Clint Armstrong, who
passed off as a dentist. Mrs. Berry,
who is a widow and has one child,
boarded with Mrs. S. L. Price. Armstrong
went to the house to take out
her teeth, and gave her something?
cocaine, chloroform or something
else? it is not known what?to deaden
the pain. In a very short time
after drawing the teeth she began to
grow weak, and died very soon of
heart failure?evidently the effect of
the drug administered.
The same man also drew a tooth for
Mrs. Berry's sister, Miss Victoria
Rivers, and she came near dying also
?in fact it was thought she would
die; but the latest report is that the
doctors think she will survive.
Armstrong Had been passing himself
off as a dentist, telling some that
he came from Greenville, others from
Whitmire. When he saw what he
had done he hurried away as fast as
he could, and it is thought he caught
one of the trains on the Southern,
but it is not known whether he went
east or west. Telegrams were sent
both ways asking for his arrest.?
Newberry Observer.
LATER.
Since the above was taken from
The Observer Armstrong has been
arrested at Clinton and brought back
to Newberry, and the" coroners jury
returned a verdict, holding him responsible
for Mrs. Berry's death.

Every Man His Own Hector.
The average man cannot afford to
employ a physician for every slight ailment
or injury that may occur in his
family, nor can he afford to neglect
them, as so slight an injury as the scratch
of a pin has been known to cause the
loss of a limb. Hence every man must
from necessity be his own doctor for
this class of ailments. Success often
depends upon prompt treatment, which
can only be had when suitable medicines
are kept at hand. Chamberlain's
Remedies have been in the market for
many years and enjoy a good reputation.
Chamberlain's Colic, Cholera and Diarrhoea
Remedy for bowel complaints.
Chamberlain's Cough Remedy for
coughs, colds, croup and whooping
cough.
Chamberlain's Pain. Ealm (an antiseptic
liniment) for cuts, bruises, bums,
sprains, swellings, lame back and rheumatic
pains.
Chamberlain's Stomach and Liver
Tablets for constipation, biliousness and
stomach troubles.
Chamberlain's Salve for diseases of
the skin.
One bottle of each of these five prepa- j
rations costs but $1.25. For sale by the

Love is apt to make a fool of a man,
but most men are willing to take the

that it arouses the suspicion of the
neighbors.

The Road to Fortune.
"It's hard work," said the boss,
"to get anybody to do even the simplest
things really well and to keep
on doing them so; and I do lore to

have to do, no matter what it may be,
nrli A 1? ATTA VlAfle/?AA

the sense and nerve to keep at it that
way steadily. It is a positive delight
tome to find a boy that makes a good
job of sweeping out the store, who is
not satisfied with giving it a lick and
a promise?sweeping out the thick of
it from the middle of the floor?but
who digs into the corners and sweeps
clean along the edges and makes a
good, thorough, workmanlike job of it
all through. Kow, that sort of job of
sweeping is a positive help to the business
; it makes the store attractive,
it actually gets into the atmosphere
of the place and helps to draw people
who would as surety be repelled, if
not driven away by a store " slackly I
kept. And now suppose this boy :
keeps right on so, unflinchingly; suppose
he shows that he's really got the
stuff in him; why, he gets the first
chance there is for a step up, for the
demand for men who can do thines is
greater than the supply, and then if
he will only keep on doing things the
way he began, why he's* got his future
in his own hands. And what is true
of the boy sweeping the store is
equally true of every other boy, in ,
whatever work he may be doing, absolutely
; for the whole secret of success
lies in doing whatever your
hands find to do well and- faithfully.
This is an old, old, oft told story, I
know, but there's a fresh crop of boys
coining into the field daily,,to whom,
ever, it must be new, and if but one
of each day'e crop would take the old
story to. heart the world in general
would be better off and the boy himself
would profit by it greatly."
Remarkable Resale.
That truth is stranger than fiction,
lias ecee more been demonstrated in
: the little town of Fedora, Tann., the
residence of C. V. Pepper. He writes: 1

cow, aged eight years. She is of undoubted

Cotton.
The farmers of this section have had
a tough time with their cotton this
spring. The weather has been, entirely
too cold and much of the young
cotton has died out causing a great
deal of replanting. It is still dying
and the weather is still cold. Cotton
yesterday was looking sick. The farmers
that we talk^ci to yesterday are
very much discouraged over the out
look. The plant is very small for the
season with the replant cotton just
coming up good. But with warm seasonable
weather from now on, a fair
crop can yec be made, provided the
fall is late.?Edgefield News.
