Lee Marshall and Joe Boman, two colored workmen in Columbia, Thursday night became engaged in a difficulty. During .the fracus Marshall struck Boman on the head with a scantling. Boman left supposedly to get a doctor to dress his wound, but whether he did or not. is unknown. However, he was found dead in his room next morning. Marshall was arrested. Respited at Last Minute. Spartanburg, March l.?While preparations were being made today to hang John Shelton, a negro convicted of killing his father-in-law. Sheriff Nichols received an order from Chief Justice Pope of the supreme court staying the execution until April 19. The prisoner had been notified to get ready for the march to the scaffold when the stay was received. "Thank God." exclaimed Shelton when told he had been granted a respite.?The State. x Affirmed bv Supreme Court. In the Supreme Court last week the case of J. Davis Gantt vs. Mrs. M. F. Gantt was affirmed. The decision of Judge Klugb, in our Circuit court last August, decided that a certain mortgage held by Mrs. M. F.
