The world waits in attendance on its growth, the shower falls whispering on its leaves is heard around the earth. The frost that chills it and the dew J that descends from the stars are noted and the trespass of a little worm on its green leaf is more to England than the advance of the Russian army on her Asian outposts. For sale by Kaufman Drag Cc ^ Work of the Heart. Few stop to consider the amount c labor performed daily by the huma heart. The inexhaustible supply c energy displayed by this overworke organ is marvelous. Calculation hs shown that the work of the heart * an average person is equal to the fe: of lifting over five tons at the rate < a foot and' an hour or 12-5 tons i twenty-four hours. A certain D Richardson once made a curious ca culation in regard to the work pe formed by the heart in mileage. H presumed that the blood was force out of the heart at each palpitation i the proportion of sixty-nine strokes minute and at the assumed distanc of nine feet. At this rate the flow < the blood through the body would t 207 yards a minute, or seven miles a hour. This would make 170 miles day, or 61,000 miles a year. Thus i a lifetime of eighty-four years th blood in the human bod}- would travi over 5,000,000 miles. The number < beats of the heart required to send th blood that far would be over 3,000,000 000.
