There certainly must be m agnetism or infatuation around the dispensary and like tire rose that faded and shatg tered at will, yet it retains its sweet fragrance still. The Orangeburg Patriot has a candidate for the United States Senate to succeed Senator Latimer, but so far refuses te divulge his name. , The Arkansas minister, who preached three hours on "Hell," probably *' wanted to get his congregation warmed up to it. The Augusta Herald, since the fa| g moos Thaw trial has been in progress, has issued a 7 o'clock edition?making two issues daily. The Washington correspondent of fk the News and Courier is authority for the statement that Congressman A. F. Lever will be a candidate for Senator Latimer's place in the primary .* next year. If Lever enters the race f he will make it hot for Brer Latimer, if ?Orangeburg Times and Democrat. "We don't want to be placed ii the ridiculous position that there i no difference morally between dispen saries and prohibition. On Wednesv~ day evening our friend, W. A. Der^ rick, passed quietly away. He had 0 been a sufferer since Christmas eve. All that physicians and tender, loving 19 hands could do did not prevail. He " was a member of the Antioch Baptist church, where he was always found at his post of duty. The church loses ^ a faithful member, the home a devoted husband, a kind father; the State ry losesia noble, upright citizen. The in ^ funeral services were conducted by his pastor, Rev. J. F. McGill, and his remains were laid to rest in the Swansea .cemetery in the presence of a large crowd of sorrowing people. On the morning of Tuesday last, about G o'clock, the death angel vis^ ited the peaceful home of our beloved W. I. Jumper, and took his loving and faithful bosom companion. She ^ too, had been an intense sufferer for a | great while, all of which she bore J? with Christian fortitude. She was a ir member of the Methodist church and [' died in the faith. Her remains were interred in the Calvary church bury1_ ing grounds, the funeral being cone ducted by Rev. J. F. McGill. She > leaves a husband and five children to J mourn her death. Our hearts go out in deep sympathy to the bereaved ' ones in these two sad-strickened families. May this dispensation of Providence be the means of causing us all ? to live better lives, and when the change comes, we too, may be ready j. ,e to go' The small grain is not very promis^ ing at present.
