A Kitchen Course of Study.

selves for solution. One of the most
important will have to be solved in
the kitchen. Not many months ago
there was a bride that set out with
her young husband to make their new
home. She had'been brought up in a
well-to-do family and was not obliged
to cook or assist in kitchen, pantry
and dining room. It was rather pai
thetic to witness her efforts, without
trained servants, to set an attractive
table. She knew nothing about plain
or fancy cooking. She was at the
mercy of cook and butcher. Every
girl about the time her mind runs to
beaux should[give her attention to
the kitchen. She should learn how
to give out meals, to make bread,
cook meats and do all plain cooking.
That art being acquired she could
then learn to make a variety of cakes
and deserts. If the beau does not
come along all this knowledge will be
valuable for she can say to her tired
mother?"I will attend tp the kitchen
this week. You must rest." All that
work will give "sweet sixteen" confidence
in herself and when the time
comes to^begin^housekeeping she will
be prepared for it'. Another thing

receipt book. When she finds that
! this or that is particularly good write
out the receipt. Of course cook books
are cheap and helpful but a dozen or
two tested receipts, known to be good
will come in handy in the new home.
We advise every girl who reads this
1 to take a thorough course in her mother's
kitchen so that she may be able
to manage her own when she gets
