Mr. Arthur Harman killed a large hog
last Monday and threw the ribs and

W. Eargle is confined to his home at

We beg to call attention of our
readers and the farmers especially to

The carpenters are at work on the
new residence of Mr. Hampton N.
Kaminer on upper Main street. When
completed this will be one of the
handsomest cottages in town and will

Mr. C. W. Stewart, of Brattleboro,
vt., but who has been spending the
last few winters in Batesburg, was
here Saturday. Mr. .Stewart is a good
conversationalist and it is always a
pleasure to talk with him. He is now
one of the largest piano dealers in the
county and has placed, several instruments
in and around Batesburg.

- Notes From Selma.

The long spell of warm weather is
at last broken, and to-day we have
nice winter weather.
Last Saturday, the 19th, Mrs. Susan
Daily, the aged widow of the late
Alexander Daily, departed this life at
the advanced age of 90 years and a
few months. Her funeral was conducted
by Rev. E. A. Wayne and attended
by a large congregation of
friends and relatives.
Small grain is unusually forward,
owing to the warm weather of the
last few weeks. Fruit trees had begun
to show signs of spring, in fact I
have a peach tree in full bloom, but
that one is all that has bloomed out
in my orchard.
I know you, and many of your readers,
will doubt the truth of what I
am now going to tell you, but it is
certainly true. Last Saturday, our
champion fisherman, Mr. H. J. Fulmer,
caught a big fish, a german
carp, that weighed 22 pounds. I
know this to be a fact?both from
sight and,taste?for I helped to eat

Isn't it funny how the anti-Tillman
politicians and newspapers jump on
Senator Tillman, no matter what he
says or does? Tillman says those negroes
who shot up Brownsville, Texas,
ought to have been hung instead of
simply being dismissed. If a South
Carolina United States Senator of the
old regime had done the same thing
that Tillman has done, these same
Tillman haters would be throwing up
their hats and hurrahing like so many
