The Senate today passed the Christnsen resolution, calling for another dispensary investigating committee. The resolution, however, was finally modified?limiting the investigation to 10 days. The resolution arose from the statement that the present board i of dispensary directors have over- j stocked the institution, in fact, they I have made such large purchases recently that they now have about 35 solid cars of whiskey on the different "* * ? ini * ! _ T_ ^ railroad traces in uoiomDia wmuu have been there since the last of December, and which the dispensary is now paying heavy demurrage charges. The Senate spent a dull day today, as usual, and little of importance was done. Mr. Weston announced the presence of Hon. Bennett H. Young, of Kentucky, who addressed the Senate for a short time. When he mentioned the name of Wade Hampton he was loudly applauded. The foregoing bills passed to their third reading: Senator Otts?A joint resolution to require the dispensary investigating committee to report. The senate was without ? incident to-day, except a concurrent resolution offered by Mr. Smith to abolish the State dispensary. The resolution is as follows: "Be it resolved, by the senate, the house of representatives concurring: "Whereas the people of the State are much interested and resting uneasily as to the settlement of the liquor question, and "Whereas it behooves the general assembly of South Carolina to dispose of the question and settle down to other important matters that aie now and to come before it, "Be it resolved, That the State dispensary be abolished and that a joint -committee consisting of the judiciary committee of each branch of the general assembly shall prepare and submit a bill to carry out this purpose and to submit a bill for the handling' of liquor in this State." New bills of interest: Mr. Sinkler?A bill to authorize electric railway, gas and electrio light companies to lease their properties. Mr. Carlisle?A bill to require the railroads of this State to issue interchangeable 2,000-mile books or tickets at a price not to exceed 2 cents per mile. Mr. Graydon?A bill to amend section 2938 of the code of laws of South Carolina, 1902, volume 1, relating to the pay of jurors. Mr. Efird?A bill to amend section 1 of an act entitled "An act to require the board of education of Lexington county to create a special school district in said county to be known as St. John's school district," approved 16th day of February, 1906, by striking out the words "the maintenance of a school for white children" in the first section thereof. Mr. Graydon?A bill to provide for the traveling expenses of the circuit judges of this State. Mr. Wells?A bill to amend an act entitled "An act to provide punishment for safe crackers,"- approved Feb. 19, 1904, by adding another section thereto to be section 2, providing punishment for anyone possessing safe cracking equipment.
