The Lexington Oispa ch. G. M. Harm an, Editor and Publisher. Entered at the Post Office at Lexington, S. C., as second class matter. Tke subscription price of the Dispatch is $1 a year; 50 cents fcr six months; 25 cents for three months?invariably cash in advance. ? ==_======_=====_==^^ < irculation, 2,298., Wednesday, December 12,1906. Years ago the Dispatch called notice to the public generally the advisability' and the great importance of a railroad along the route now proposed by the South Carolina Public Service Corporation, and since our first mention of the matter we have occasionally urged it upon the attention of the people at large and we are delighted that the matter seems now tp be taking som? definite shape. The promotion of such an enterprise will be of untold advantage to the people in the community through which the electric road will pass and we dare say it will prove a profitable undertaking for those who invest their money in it. While there are now fair prospects for the building of this road, the people should not forget to lend their aid and encouragement. We say there are fair prospects because we cannot conceive how these capitalists of the north would be spending large sums of money sending business men and engineers over the proposed route if they did not mean business. Just think for a moment what it would cost to place thirty engineers in the ' field for 60 days and that alone. You catch the idea. While we firmly believe that Jbexington county will prove a renumerative field for the money and labors of capitalists, at the same time we should not forget that there are other fc* fruitful fields for investments in this State and others. Now is the time for - Lexingtonians to put their shoulders to the wheel and secure this road. Work for it; encourage it; figure on it. v It is proposed that the road shall be 516 miles in length. Of that about 50 miles will be in Lexington county. It is estimated that it will cost $20,000 \ per mile to construct it. On account of the uniform levelness of the ground we venture the assertion that it will not take so much in this county, but using that as a basis it will be seen that in the neighborhood of $1,000,000 \' will be expended in this county. Suppose though it goes on the tax books at half that sum (500,000) the taxable property of the county will be greatly increased; and as a result thereof we can see no reason why it would not reduce the taxes of this county to an appreciable extent. 1 |p Rev. C. W. Creighton, editor of the Christian Appeal, published at Greenwood., and at one time?many years ago?pastor of this circuit, was expelled from the Methodist church last week, after a delay of many days and a heated discussion in that body. An appeal was taken to the general conference which meets four years hence, and the matter stands where it was. It not only takes courage, but true manhood, to take the position which Mr. Creighton took. He attacked those, in high places, and f with his fluent pen made charges <3-~ that is believed by some to be true. Mr. Creighton before being admitted to the conference was a lawyer, and s is regarded by those who know him as a man of no "mean ability. Mr. Creighton is barred from the ministry for the next four years, but it goes without saying that he will continue to use the columns-of his paper with an unbridaled tongue. The Leesville News gives editoral currency to the assertion that the court expenses for the last term of court cost the county $2.50 per minute. The assertion is ridiculous on its face but we have not looked into the records to disprove it, and we are content to feel that the News1 editor is measuring the value of time by the Value he puts upon his own. We most say, however, that the machinery of the courts runs tantalizingly alow and business, it seems, could be expedited without any injustice to >v anyone. t Let the committee appointed by Chairman George at the citizens' meeting Monday lend every aid possible to the promoters of the proposed electrie road. They are all good business men of wide range, and with their assistance, Lexington will do her part towards this new enterprise. Let the other counties and towns do - their part and the road will be built. Congressman Lever is already at work in the national house. It is said that be will introduce a bill in a few days, providing for an appropriation for the further development of the Congaree from Columbia to Georgetown. 1 tSV r * \ v ' SSS ~ > - -rCT Does Whar^\ f IgSfl Other Stoves j Fail to Do j - r- ? ? 1 In almost every house there is jr^ n I ~~"\V a room that the heat from the ?j Jfiif VV other stoves or furnace fails to ^ Ml | - reach.
